Message: I would like to really clean up my engine today and was wondering what is the best product to use? Also, what parts should I cover up when I spray the hose in there? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Message: I cover the Distributor and the Alternator with a plastic bag and then a small towel to keep the in place. I run the engine to warm it up and use simple green and am careful not to over spray on to the paint. Then rinse and wipe down. I am always as careful as possible trying not to get water everywhere.

Message: Simple Green is highly corrosive to aluminum. The USAF and US Army both recommend that it not be used to clean aluminum. This is backed up on several car forums I visit.
Do a search on Google if you don't believe me.
