A few weeks ago a few new Dakota owners indicated their SLT's didn't have the hood insulation on them. Mine just arrived at the dealership today. As other new owners have indicated, it is missing the insulation. My salesman wasn't aware of the change from DC and asked me to print any information on what other dealerships have done to "fix the problem"

So, I'd appreciate any comments listing the problem and your dealership, and what they did for you. While I've noticed the missing hood insulation, any other problems you've found and the associated fix would also help me.

Thanks for your help!

Picking up my Patriot Blue 2001 CC, SLT+, 4.7L, 5 speed, 2wd, 3.55 AS tomorrow at 3:30!

Hey Chuck,
Sounds like you had the same issue I did. My dealer ordered me the hood pad and gave me a call in about 3 weeks to come have it installed. They just coded it as a missing part and took care of it. There were not able to get the QC hard badges though and threw in a free oil change. I didn't have a major issue with that as it is only one less item to have to wax around. Dealer (Rick Hunt, Warrington, VA) has treated me fine so far. Believe it or not, I bought my DAK at a Ford dealership (the salesmen are allowed to sell both as the Dodge dealership is right next door and a friend recommended the saleman to me) Seem like fairly decent folks out there.

FM18,
Thanks for your help. I gave a copy of your reply to my saleman and he's going to follow up. He couldn't give me a firm answer, but indicated he thought they would be able to get the insulation installed. I also noticed the rear wheel wells aren't fully coated towards the top, as other have noted.

Other then that, the truck is great! It's fast, rides good and handles well.

Thanks again for your help.

Chuck

Hey Popeye,
Only the SLT's came with hood insulation (pad) and that was supposedly cut out during mid year as a cost cutting step. It was in the brochure dodge put out when I ordered my truck so my dealer felt obligated (and rightly so) to order and install the missing pad for me.

I went to my dealer with the Dak 2001 Booklet in hand listing what items came with each package. He took a look at it and then we looked another one on the lot and it had it as well. He ordered the insulation pakage for me and it is at the dealer ship right now. Next saturday they are going to install it for me. I offered but they insisted that they must do it. This was all done as warranty work.

The hood pad is missing from my '01 quadcab SLT as well. I'm going to contact the dealer as well. My dealership, Hartzeim Dodge in San Jose CA, is a five star dealership, so I'm sure they'll take care of it. So far they have had demonstrated spectacular customer service. I'll keep you all posted.

My hood is sitting on the front lawn. Its kinda funny cause it looks like the truck is buried under the grass and only the hood is above land.

After reading about missing components on the mid year Dakota's I took the brochure and checked for every option I was supposed to have. I found I was missing the hood insulation and the center console light. Also, I noticed a poor factory paint job in the recessed parts of the body below the back window. I took the truck and the brochure to the dealer, they instantly agreed it was not acceptable and I now have an appointment for Monday morning to get the back painted, and the hood insulation and console light installed. Plus a free loaner car while the work is being done, no questions asked.

Here's what I did. When I got my new QC home I
also noticed it didn't have any hood insulation. I
also noticed in the DC 2001 Dak brochure that it
explcitly states that hood insualtion is part of
the SLT package. I took my truck and brochure back
to the dealer and told them that one of the major
reasons that I ordered the SLT over the Sport was
because of the extra sound deadening insulation.
End result - they installed the insulation at no
charge, due in large part to my persistance. I
also reminded them that any heat from the engine
is going to cause problems in the hood paint that
they will have to warranty.

Just an update. My "5-star" Dodge Dealer, Hartzheim Capitol Dodge in San Jose CA, added the missing hood insulation to my '01 Quad-Cab SLT. They have demonstrated spectacular customer service since I walked through the door!

Hopefully you all have a strong dealership behind the purchase of your '01 Dakota SLTs.
