just blew out the spider gears and who knows what else on my 90 V6 5speed 2WD dakota. what other years besides 1990 will bolt right up. I am going to the junkyard in the morning and need to know. What is the difference between the round and hexagonal rear covers they keep asking me about?
Thanks

You want an 87-90 rear end. The round cover is an 8 1/4, that's what you probably have now and that's what you want to get. The hexagonal cover is the 7 1/4, basically only suitable for 4 cylinder trucks. Good luck!

A 4 cylinder rear will bolt in but your driveshaft will be too long or too short, I can't remember which one it is.
