In my 1999 Dakota, the passenger side floor gets extremely hot on long trips. Any suggestions for a fix? I also notice this last lengthy trip the entire interior of the firewall was very hot. I must make a 1500 miles trip and want more comfort than is in the cab right now. Suggestions appreciated. I have reviewed the search forum but found nothing that addresses this specific issue, only items dealing with heat from the intake. HELP !!! If I can't get my bride comfy, she might not go !!!

It mat be the heat from the catalytic converter that you are feeling on the floor. Does you converter have a heat shield on it? Maybe it is starting to get clogged and is overheating.

I looked this morning and there are heat shields between the exhaust pipe and the catalytic converter. The converter does not seem to be plugged as the truck does not lose power and is quite responsive. I did notice the a/c cannot keep up with the temps that come through the floorboard. I had thought of placing a home made heat shield between the exhaust pipe and floor but there is one there. There is a great deal of heat coming from the firewall also.
Any assistance will be appreciated.

I had the same problem with a 89 crew cab chevy i used to own. that thing would be like a oven inside after a long drive to lets say the colorado river. What I ended up doing was I took out the carpet and installed that sound proofing material that has the reflective silver backing. I installed it silver side down. before that I went to the junkyard and looked for a crew cab full size truck and I peeled the carpet off the passanger side. under there right where the cat converter is, there is a padding that looks like compressed fiberglass. thats heat shield.
i ended up using that and it made a huge difference. the truck had a 454 motor and a turbo 400. it was a hot running truck. just to give you a idea after driving to the river I would touch the 4x4 lever on the floorboard and it would be schorching hot. as for the exhaust manifolds the straight part of the manifold ( stock manifold) would be glowing orange.
It made a great difference. my ac couldnt keep up to the heat on the floor either.

Yours shouldnt be even close to that hot. I would look for a small exhaust hole in the cat possibly a rust hole that may be pointing up and heating the floorboard more than normal

I've got the carpet pulled up on my passenger side floorboard while I try to get the water out from what I believe to have been an AC drain tube leak. I installed an elbow onto the drain tube, and went for a test drive yesterday afternoon. When I got back, I got down to lift up the small rubber mat that is fitted up high on the passenger side floorboard, in order to check for any leak, and I was surprised at how incredibly hot it was there. It was much too hot for me to be able to touch it. Then, I remembered that the exhaust manifold (headers, in my case) is right on the other side of the firewall at that location, right where it connects with the Y pipe. It's bound to be hot there. If you're getting too much heat into the cab, I'd make sure that your insulating pad and the carpet are OK at that location. You might discover that you've had water on that side, and those things have disintegrated to the point where they won't keep the heat out.

when i get that cat off im going to beat it to hell with a hammer till its as flat as a board

Emeraldakota unless you have replaced the cat with an aftermarket one, it's still covered under warranty. Chrysler will replace it. That will fix the rattle. Water next to the floorboard is turning to steam, making it seem hotter. There is an exhaust wrap in tht Summit or Jegg's catalog that might help. Good luck.
