It all depends on what you are expecting as far as quality goes.

At the very least I`d say $2500 and add more from there.

Color change jobs are a LOT more time consuming than just painting the outside an orig. color.
You will want to have everything taken apart incl. all the interior trim to get the rubber gaskets off the jams , the doors , handles , mirrors , windows , the bed , bumpers...etc...

Just remember that you get what you pay for , so if someone gives you a price that sounds to good to be true , it probably is!

Paint is not that much....I got ests up here for 1200-1600 to GET my truck painted from green to black (including door jams). If I were to do it myself it would be from 600-800 (friend has the paint gun and garage).

Ben,
I am having my '96 CC repainted right now. I will be going up to the shop in WV this afternoon to try and resolve a couple problems that came up between the work to be done and cost quoted. Once I get back, I can give you some details if you like.

Thanks Rich that would be good. There is one place around here that is a custom paint place that ive heard wonderful comments about and ive seen some of their custom work on some trucks. I have yet to get a quote from them. I havent decided what color or any special affects yet so I dont know what to tell them for them to give me a price. THanks Rich

Well yes , paint IS that much if you want a top quality job. I paint for a living and have been for doing so for 13+yrs. now , so I think I know what I`m talking about. If you had your truck painted for $1200 I`d love to see the end result.

And as far as knowing someone with a paint gun and a garage...if that`s what you`re lokking for , go right ahead.

I`m just trying to give realworld advise , just don`t be surprised if you get estimates for $2000-up.

BTW ...the paint jobs at the shop I work, start at $1500 and go up from there , that`s just repainting a factory color , with no bodywork or jams , and yes we are inline with other GOOD shops in my area.

Good luck with whoever you choose.

Yes there are at least 3 or more little dings and dents that need to be fixed and prolly a whole new drivers front side panel to be replaced from where i rubbed a guard rail in the snow this winter and dented and scraped it in a hard to fix place. So i should be expected $3k for a good paint job?

a good paint job will cost close to $5000 (if
you want to change the color) but it also
depends alot on what type of paint you use.
the paint I used on my dak cost $1000 per
gallon. If I'm not mistaken it takes like 1.5
gallons to fully paint a dak, but I'm not sure.
instead of doing a color change, consider
painting it the stock color but have some
shaving done while its in the shop ; )

most of the cost is labor, so the more body
work, dings, dents, filler, etc the more money it
will cost.

Hi Ben,
Ok, the misunderstandings have been cleared and here is my deal. They are stripping the hood, top of the cab, and upper quarter of the body panels where the sun beats hardest down to the primer to help eliminate the possibility of the "Peeling Paint Syndrome" from occuring anytime in the near future. The remainder of the body/bed is being sanded down to the basecoat. All trim is being removed, bed being removed from frame to sand and paint the between surfaces as well. Only thing not being removed is the front and rear window glass. The doors are not being removed as the jams are good, and do not require painting. The inside of the bed is not being painted. (It looks like new thanks to the bed protector I installed between the bedliner and the bed.) All paint edges will be concealed or blended in to be undetectable. They are basecoating (original color), 1st clearcoat, sanding, and then applying 2nd clearcoat, and baking the finish. I think that covers just about everything except for cost, approximately $3000-$3500. I was told this is an exceptionally good deal that under normal circumstances would have cost quite a bit more. (Someone was finally looking out for me!)

Depending on who you know or don't know, and the quality of their work, you can get very nice paintwork done from about $2000-$2500 on up depending on the level of detail/restoration you want to achieve. When you locate a couple painters you might be interested in, the best thing is to go see their work. If you are unfamiliar with what you should be looking for, take someone with you that is. Hope this helps you out at least a little. Good-luck!
Rich
