O.K. I’m finally going to fix the Belly pan problem on my truck. I have a 99 CC 5.2 5speed; I am now just getting into the 50k mark on mileage. I have searched the site for anything that will help decide what route to take. I can either spend over $100.00 on parts for the ASP aluminum pan or just try to use TRS from NAPA. ssclone said that Chrysler had a replacement pan for $10-12 that will replace the old pan but to date I haven’t been unsuccessful in finding the part #. ssclone if your out there I need the number of the new pan. I called the local parts dealer and got the typical response, “Never heard of it”. HELP I travel home each weekend which is a 400 mile round trip and I’m tired of checking the gas and filling the oil. Not to mention the power lose I’ve experienced. I have been building and repairing vehicles for better than 20 years and don’t have a problem with tearing into the top end of the motor.

Get the ASP, I did and really like it. It has all you need to make a good repair. The aluminum also offers a thicker barrier between the engine heat and intake air. The Chrysler pan is only a little better than the original one and is no thicker. Check ALLPAR for the TRS with the part number. Be sure to use new intake bolts. Good luck

The APS aluminum pan arrived in the mail last night, I'm going to change it this weekend. I'll post how it goes, hopefully on Monday.

O.K. I need some more help with this belly pan replacement. I last posted that the new aluminum one that I ordered was in. Well when I went to get an intake gasket kit for it I first went to the dealer. They want 62.00 for the set and said that the bolts that come with it are highly recomended. I don't trust dealers especaly this one. It is the only one for an hours drive. I know that this post my be long but I have a some more questions.

1) Is there a source for the gaskets only, other than FELPRO?
2) Do I need to replace the bolts in the intake (as recommened by the dealer) when I remove it?
3) The last one the APS aluminum pan came with a metal gasket and the FELPRO pan gasket is metal and has some sort of gasket material on it. Which one is best the FELPRO or the supplied one from APS?

I have to fix the speedo on my daughters Neon this weekend so I won't be doing the pan replacement until next weekend. It is getting a bit aggrivating to say the least about the parts problem Iv'e run into. I love the Dak but this over seas ownership of Chrysler thing is @%&* up!

Forgive any spelling mistakes if any, I talk to planes for a living not writing reports.

When I did it I think I used FELPRO for the intake manifold gaskets. I dont remember the cost on them. I just reused the factory pan. Was there a problem with that? Its been fine since.

Your questions in order ...

Forget using the gasket and go with Great Stuff. It's a gasket maker that works incredibly and a heck of a lot cheaper than the gaskets. You should be able to find it at Napa or PepBoys.

Yes you need the new bolts. The bolts are designed for one torqueing only and will fail if used again.

My aluminum belly pan came with the stock gasket which I promptly threw out. Go with the Great Stuff (not to be confused with The Great Stuff which is used for sealing cracks in your home) and you'll never have another leak again.

Thanks, I will look into the "Great stuff" at NAPA today, just a question though does it come out thick or thin?

Great Stuff comes in a can with a plastic nozzle (kind of like whip cream). It comes out thick, but is easily worked. I forget how long you have to wait before mating surfaces, but I know it's not long and says on the can.

O.K. I finally finished the Belly Pan replacement this past
Friday. I had no problems with the installation and I would like to thank those of you that helped me on this! Since I have to drive almost 400 miles round trip each weekend I had a chance to get a good mileage check too. I gained around 2 miles to the gallon (Highway) and it drove much smoother than it has in a long while. Some of the problems that where starting to show up was less power, rough idle, gas mileage going down, and a higher idle, around 1k rpm’s. Somewhere in here I read a thread where someone was having troubles fixing there high idle problem. I would suggest that they do the basic check to see if they have a blown Plenum gasket. When I pulled the vent tube from the back of the air hat (one that goes to the left valve cover) I found a high vacuum which is caused buy the engine pulling air through the engine into the intake manifold. I was getting a “Check engine” light. I didn’t have the code read, and I hope that the code was reset when I had the battery disconnected during the work. During the ride back to Patuxent River I didn’t get a new code, or this morning driving to work.

99 CC 5 Speed 5.2 with no mods…….YET. :)

I too noticed more power after I fixed mine. With a stock transmission (no shift kit) I would chirp going into second when accelerating onto the highway. I had an open rear at the time and 235/70/15 tires on the back. Now I have much wider tires and a limited slip differential and no chirp anymore. :-) I'm glad the fix went well for you. Its a pain in the butt. I also noticed some unburned fuel coming out the tailpipes at higher rpms before I fixed it.
