Ok,
So i have been talking to my friend lately who is an import fanatic...I know some stuff about imports blah blah blah.....the RARE not ricer honda crap.....My friend has an almost stock Nissan 240sx (1995) he got for cheap, and that thing is frigggggggggin fast. All he has is a high performance intake, and custom bent exhaust (hes working on other stuff, but is low on cash)...

Anyways, my question to you dak loves (me being one too)...besides the difference in this being a car and us having trucks...what is the purpose of us pouring tons of cash into our vehicles when they will be no match to something like a nissan 240sx ???

I guess this is geared towards all the rice eaters here. Heh.

I personally do it because its rare to see a 1993 pimped out dodge dakota sport ext cab that is faster than stock.

Because those cars won't plow my driveway, tow my boat or camper, and you just can't have too much power under the hood. And the look on that Mustang drivers face that just got passed by a truck ? Priceless.

anyways.....

what i meant by the question was for intelligent people to reply...not some gay a.s.s. stupid sh!ts.

I know truck have a purpose to plow driveways and all....but i was talking besides that. Like the people that have trucks that do street races and stuff....and i know you can never have too much power....but its pretty dumb to spend 10k on a truck and only get 100-200 more HP when you can spend the same on an import and get 300+ HP

if you put 10k into anything, and end up with 100-200 horsepower, you f*ucked up somewhere. racing anything that is street legal is pretty dumb, but putting 10k into an import makes much less sense then doing the same to a truck. bottom line is, something is really wrong with your truck if you can't keep up with a 240sx. You ask the purpose of putting money in our trucks if they won't be a match with the nissan? What's the purpose of having a riced out 93 dakota sport extended cab that is a little faster then stock?

For about $3k you can bolt on a supercharger and be making over 300hp from a 5.2. The problem with racing trucks is there's almost no weight over the drive wheels, so it's hard to get traction.

The 240 isn't a high performance car. To be making 300hp on one takes quite a bit of work.

Hey Wolf....
Would a supercharger really bring that much HP? Thats crazy...anyways, the handling on the 240sx is really good (made for drifting) and I dont know too much on the engine and speed an all that...i just know its a good car. Anyways, for traction for a truck, wouldnt traction bars help? I know my truck has a lot of hop in it, and I need to get rid of it somehow.

u dont know anything do u? u have about 230 hp stock, so getting 70 more from a intercooled supercharger would be easy as $hit!! why u even bother with a 93 ? ur gonna rice it out with all the murray mods. those gen daks were light as hell and pretty quick with thier v8.

Why would you waste 5-10k in making 200 more hp ? Maybe you have too much of that filthy green stuff ? For that price buy a used Z28. Trucks are made to haul stuff. I had a 94 Z28. Everytime a truck wanted to race me I just laughed( sorry guys). It wasn't worth getting a ticket. A mustang though is another story. I used to autocross(drifting) it as well. It has now been replaced by the C5 which I plan on taking to the MidAmerica race track. But I do love my DAk. It's all stock with a 3.9. Believe it or not I like it better than the C5.

Funny story (somewhat, sorry if you dont like it, it is true). One of my friends has a 1999 Camaro Z-28, mildly modified with only a Catback exhaust and a K&N FIPK intake. One of his friends friends had some honda civic that he just dropped a $5k engine into, he was talkling all this $hit about it being the best motor out there and would make his car run 12's (yeah right). Well, they raced, Z28 vs. civic with "12" second engine in it. Wasnt even funny, I was riding shotgun in the Camaro, when he shifted into 2nd the civic was seeing major tail lights...
End of story, sorry if it wasnt that funny, I think it is because the guy put so much money into making his car "fast."

It doesnt matter if you have a civic or dakota or even a geo metro all that matters is making your vechile what YOU want. It doesnt matter if this can beat this or they have this much money in their motor. All that matters is that the person enjoys doing it. Well thats just my 2 cents.

A Nissan 240SX is frigen fast? Are you kidding me? That thing would be lucky to run in the 16's. You obviosly have never been in anything frigen fast or you certainly would not be impressed with a non turbo 2.4 liter car. I think they had around 150 horse power and they use the same engine as the Nissan truck. Even with the intake and custom exhaust that car would be lucky to have 160 horsepower and maybe 120 at the wheels. I admit that maybe you can get the sensation of it going fast if he revs the bejesus out of that thing and maybe it sounds mean with that intake and exhaust but believe me that thing is not frigen fast. When you get in a race against a real fast car you will see the difference. Just hope you don't run up against a new SRT4 or a modded WRX or GTI. Those things are frigen fast for what they are but speed is a relative thing. You want to feel speed? Go for a ride in a modded Grand National or supercharged 5.0 liter stang. As far as the handling of those things go, I gues they are ok. Maybe around .82 or so lateral g's. What makes them unique is the fact they are rear wheel drive. They are not "built to drift" They can be made to drift but so can any rear wheel drive car if you push it hard enough. Remember, the 240SX is not the same a the Nissan Skyline that is sold in Japan. They may look the same and kids think they are driving a sports car buy they are economy cars. The Japanese skyline GTR is underated at 276 horsepower and is a twin turbo. That thing is "frrrrriiiigggggeeeennn fast" and "built to drift".

240SX's are not that quick. STock vs stock they are slower than a stock DOHC Gen I Neon. They will run mid 16's in the 1/4 mile and are not as light as you think. My Neon blows them away autocrossing and my stock Shelby Dakota is as quick if not quicker in the 1/4 and I can actually use my Dakota for practical chores. Besides I get more thumbs up from fellow motorists in my Shelby than any 240 SX will get

There must be something about eating rice and the effects it has on your brain. I have a brother with a 92 Acura Integra (box stock except for the K&N) who thinks his car is fast. I am always hearing about the cars he has raced and beaten, but when pressed for details they turn out to be BS, like the light turning green when you are already going 40 when you approach the intersection and the other guy has no clue that you are "racin", or as a car approaches from behind on the interstate and you stand on the gas to keep them from passing. On occasion I have to give him a dose of reality and take him for a ride in one of my cars either the 70 GS Stage 1, or the 98 Firebird Formula ram air 6 speed, I love to see him reaching for something to grab ahold of. My Dakota is my daily driver lets see maybe a 408 stroker and, I better just keep it simple.

Hey thericeinlife, would'nt you like to take 2muchDak for a ride in that big block Buick and show him what 360 horsepower and 510ft lbs. of torque felt like? The he would know what frigen fast was. I have an 87 T-Type now that hauls ass. My friends have all had GS'S. I was a memeber of the GSCA and went to the GS nationals down in Bowling Green a few years back. My next car is going to be a 70-72 GS455. Stage 1's are too much money now.

i dont normally get into this kinda arguement, but the bottom line is, sport trucks are pimp. i dont care whether your slammed (like i) or lifted, but nice looking trucks are the sh!t. if you have to ask yourself this question, you may consider buying a car. i dont mean to hate, but if your wondering why you should spend your hard earned cash on your truck, then it prolly isnt right for you. 4 banger motors rarely see 300 hp at the wheels without major internal reconstruction (their are exceptions though).

quote from above "anyways, the handling on the 240sx is really good (made for drifting) and I dont know too much on the engine and speed an all that."

handling and drifting? not the same thing, handling is making the tires stick, drfiting is making the car go sideways. trucks can handle really nicely too, take a look at skidpad numbers. r/t- .87 honda civic si .83...
