I brought a 2000 Dakota used a few months ago. It has 56000 miles and it quite running on me, so had I had it towed to the dealer. They said it was the PCM. They said should be under the emissions 80000 mile warranty. After removing the old unit they found some yellow ink written on the back. They think it came from a junkyard. I am not the first owner, I bought it from a car lot. They said they tried to contact the previous owner but no luck finding him. The direct manager would not warranty it. My question to anyone out there, do you have any advise where to go to protest their decision?
I paid $987.00 for this repair. The factory backorder on this unit was 5 days. If the first owner had to wait that long maybe he replaced it with a used one. If they would refund the cost of the PCM of $550.00 would be good. Thanks for your suggestions.

Did you see the PCM for yourself and the yellow ink? That in itself doesn't prove it was a used PCM. Ask to see a printout of the vehicle service history. Every dealer can access that by entering your VIN. For $950 they screwed you. First, they charged you full boat list on the PCM. PCM R&R, plus reprogramming time is less than an hour. So where do they come up with $400 labor?
