Subject: Consumer-cursed - Not this time!

Here's an episode of my continuing consumer curse, and this one actually has a happy ending!

In mid-March, I went to America's tire to pick up a set of Kumho Exta tires (255/55/18) for my Dak. I read a lot of reviews on a lot of tires, and the Kumhos were by far the best value. They had great specs - wet/dry handling, wear rating, etc.

The store informed me that they were on back-order from the mfg, but they could get me two from a local warehouse, and the other two would be here in "a couple of weeks". At $96.00 per tire, I went for it.

Mounted of the front, I decided that they were pretty good tires, but noticed they had a tendancy to transfer a LOT of road imperfections to the steering wheel, not as bad as my Pirellis - it was a little annoying, but nothing I couldn't live with.

After a couple of weeks passed, I called the store, but the second pair weren't in yet. Three weeks, four weeks, five, six... sigh. I finally got irritated and called Corperate.

After MUCH nagging, the store Mgr called me and told me that they had NO IDEA when they might get these tires in, and asked if I wanted another brand. I told them that I bought the first two based on their claim that I'd have the second pair soon, and I wasn't interested in putting mismatched tires on my truck, and I promptly called Corporate from their store. Here's what they did for me:

They took back the 3-month-old pair of Kumhos and put me into a complete set of Nitto Extreme Force 404s (store price: $141 ea) and charged me LESS THAN $400.00 for everything, including the install!

These tires ROCK! Great handling, smooth ride, NO steering-wheel vibration, very high treadwear, fantastic wet-traction (yes, it rained a little today), totally quiet, and even a cool-looking tread design.

Summation? Well, it's "f" Pirelli, "F" Kumho.... I love these Nittos and America's Tire has a life-long customer.
