Message:
My bed is crooked. On the driver side I can get only my pinky between the bed and the cab. On the passenger side I can get my manly hot dog sized index finger between the two. Smae with the rear tires. I can get almost my whole flat hand between the tire and the flare on the passenger side but on the driver side, only 3 fingers.

What do I do? Can I straighten this myself by loosening the mounts and just moving the bed around or is there no room for play?

Any help is appreciated.

Yes, just loosen the bolts , I think there are 4 or 6 of them and move the bed where you want it.

There should be plenty of room for adjustment.

Jim, my truck has the same thing, took it to the local Dodge dealer and after 5 hrs in the shop it's still the same. They said I will have to take it to a Body shop on them. I haven't had a chance yet.

Good Luck and Later,

Thanks for the help guys. I'm going to go check out a few other Dakotas at work tonight. If it's normal, I won't sweat it. You can't tell at a glance so I won't worry too much.

The spec for bed to cab gap is 18.7mm +/- 3.0mm so you could potentially have 15.7mm gap on the drivers side and 21.7mm gap on the passenger side and still be in spec which sounds about right.

I had a 1987 Dodge D-150 with the same symptoms and come to find out the truck had a bent frame.

Most auto body shops will check your frame for damage and give you an estimate at no charge.

DrD, for a PROPER frame alignment check, body shops will charge as much as 2 hr shop time to put it on "frame machine" to determine integrity of the frame. Thats the only way to do it right.
