Subject: transmission went out!

Message:
I walked into best buy, came back out 5 mins later and my truck wouldn't move! I would have to rev it up to 3-4k rpm's just to get it to crawl. It's a 00' R/T, I've had 2 manual trans. go out on my in the past and at least I knew it was coming... on my auto r/t though man it was just one minute it was going fine next minute gone. Does anyone know exactly what would need to be done so when I talk to the dealership I can say hey I'm pretty sure it's this? The only local shop that has a good rep is booked for 2 weeks man so I'm stressing. I'm just scared that dodge is going to say ok buddy, 1600 bucks!

any ideas? oh it was very wet out and just beforehand I had gone through a few puddles but since then I've gone up to best buy and tried it twice and still no luck.

thanks for any input!

Okay,

Lets see...

You have a blower, at 6 pounds of boost, and a Dakota transmission...

My guess would be:

$1600

You have a trany cooler on there? How long since you changed the trans fluid?

Could be a few things, but we all know how weak the transmission link is. These are G R E A T trucks, but I feel you need to take particular care of the transmission to get long life out of it... And a blower on a V8 is not "particularly good care."

Look into the trans. Sorry.

Yeah a dak tranny isnt the best for alot of torq. Do you have a high stall converter on it? What about clutch? Your not just putten in stockers are U? Good Luck tho. Tranny problems suck!

You can get a reman'd tranny for $975 + shipping.

My 2000 ate my tranny at 56k miles... I have a converter in it now.

Damn dude, totally stock? wow, your braver than I am. these dak trannies arent the best for regular use, and your running an SC and Nos? With no high stall convtr, or hihg perf clutch? You really should get a tranny cooler to. It helps. Good Luck to you> I hope everthing works out!

nah no juice just the 6lb blower. ok man I just got off the phone w/ dodge and they are telling me BEST case scenario its going to be 1900 .. thats if they just need to replace the seals/converter/etc.. that is much more than I can afford man. Sam, what if I just get a remanufactured tranny and take my truck and it to a shop and say hey hook it up. What will my bill be looking like at that point? Dodge is not dropping my tranny w/o me approving it man so I just need to know what I should do. Any ideas?

Just checked-- a reman'd 46RE-- $1025 + $350 core charge... Run a Mopar converter 2400 stall for ~$185 shipped. The shipping on the tranny runs ~$150-200...

Where are you located?

You could go with a Martin Saine tranny too-- the upgrade would be worth it.

Email me.

I got my tranny rebuilt with full rebuild kit + labor for $950 installed ...

If I had a core, I would do that for you-- and ship it out.
