i live in the northern part of alberta and i see so many lowriders including daks, y dont they go and get themselves a car cuz a 2 w/drive truck 1 inch from the ground really has no use. we all know that a fast car with the same mods is gonna beat the truck. i'll stick with the 4x4, 600 watts of daylighters, good to go... on dry, rough, wet, snow, or rock...i'll take my qcab sport anyday.

I have a 2wd Dak and love it. I live in Florida so its pretty flat. I can tow 3000lbs+ worth of boat, motor, and trailer across the state at 65mph in 5th gear and still get 14mpg. I don't go off road anymore cause I can't afford to break stuff (i used to own 4x4's and stuff breaks). We don't have rocks, hills, or snow to climb over or though down here.

As for lowering, there are different degrees. I may lower mine 2" front and 2.5" back with the Hotchkis TVS and Roadmaster Active Suspension. That way I'll still be able to haul decent loads and it'll corner like its on rails.

When I wanna go play in the mud (thats about all there is as far as off roading goes down here) I'll get myself a used 4wd 4-wheeler and have fun.

For Christ's sake, reading this reply totally
explains why you drive a 4x4 with KC lights
and a goddamn toggle switch that you don't
know what it controls.

I just hate it when people as WHY and then
argue with the answer.

it was a rhetorical question that provides opinion. Let me guess, u love lowriders and find yourself quite offended. CThomp's response sold me as to why he has one out there in florida, but like i SAID(on a previous post whick i'm sure youve already read, lol), here up north u can get about 4 months of great dry traction for racing a year, or whatever you do with your 2wd. Which includes 2 excellent hot months for boating. Guess what the math is telling you Lemming? 8 months of alternate weather great for a 4x4. I rarely use my 96 mustang anymore, great for in city driving during the summer but really, cops and photo radar are law and tickets are extremely pricy out here anyway, so i find myself still driving the dak even tho fuel is way higher. I dont use my command start in the summer, and since i wired my KC lights i found the hidden toggle switch and thanks to a fellow's information, it overrides the operation of remote start. By the way, out here KC lighting is one of the most recognized and formiddable lighting products around. Believe me there are other greats... Hella, pro-comp,piaa,and even eagle eye products around here. I never found any that had the nice ABS stone guards or the vinyl red and black that matches my trim. Nice to know that KC's are hated where u are. If i knew where that was, i'd look into buying Piaas or something else, oh wait, i wouldnt drive my truck OUT there... i'd use my mustang!

Oilerzman,

Flip the toggle switch “on”, quit chasing your
sister around and pay attention. If you don’t
take your truck off road, four wheel drive is a
waste. IMHO it’s for people that have no idea
how to drive in poor weather conditions, like
snow.

My 2wd Quad will go through as much snow
as the 4wd Jeep Comanche or awd Jeep
Grand Cherokee Limited I had before I bought
it. If four wheel drive is so damned important
why are squad cars and mail delivery vans
2wd?

Oh and BTW, I live in northern Wisconsin, so
I’ve driven in plenty of snow and I can spot a
dumb redneck (you) faster than a cop can spot
a donut.

Let me get this straight, you can spell
“rhetorical”, but “soup” is out of reach for you?

FWIW, a rhetorical question is one that’s
asked only for effect, not information.

Now, jump in your 4x4, turn on the KC’s, (not
the switch under the dash) drive home and go
lay by your dish.

hey Flemm, our cops have a fleet of 4x4 suburbans and suvs as well as ski-doos, and quads. Are u one of the "ones" who can out drive the feds? I suppose your going to tell me your 2wd will be better on a road with 1" of ice? How bout 3" of slush? thats highway conditions and the 4by is quite handy at that time of year. I use to drive my mustang in that sh_t so get that "dont know how to drive attitude" out of this forum and stick it right back in your mom.

I knew that was coming... Todays lesson:Stopping with traction tires.
Good traction tires will give you more control on ice and even better control if you have a 4by, good traction tires will also stop you better than not so good traction. Also a good braking system will stop you better on ice than a poor one.
Tomorrows lesson: Acceleration with bald tires!
For all who may be confused your truck starts out at a complete stop.

WOW,

I'm going out on a limb here and guessing
that oilerzman uses the four wheel drive a
lot...trying to get out of the DITCH.

You can almost here him "Let's go mom, I

havta push. My "traction tires" didn't work, and
I'm going to be late for my job flipping burgers.

Opinion on 2 wdrive trucks

Message:
Hi, I'm in mid Ontario and I have a 5 spd manual 2wd (rear wheel drive) 1988 Comanche 285,000 km that will never die but it really doesn't like going over 100km/h and it has no A/C so I'm finally thinking of upgrading. I'm looking at getting a Dakota (can't think of getting an SUV or a sedan after having a truck) and after spending too many winters with bags of sand in the bed and still sliding when I go around any corner, I'm thinking of getting a 4 wd. Do I need one or has technology advanced since the late 80s in 2wd? PS I'm a girl so I'm not even sure if 2wd on a Dakota means rear wheel or not. If it's fwd, then I can see not needing 4wd. But if it's rear wheel, they aren't great in the winter, whether it's a truck or a sedan, in my girlish experience. PS is there a great gas guzzling and environmental unfriendliness between the 2wd and 4wd? Like to hear your thoughts. But please be gentle, as I've said, I am a girl and I know I'd lose in an arm wrestle to the weakest of you all. Thanks.

All depends on how u feel on the roads. I dont know how slippery or even how much snow you get over there. The 2wd will be cheaper but youll definitly still need sand bags. I dont use them but the extra weight in the 4by4 will help as well. I usually have a something heavy in the back(quad).I think these people will really try to sell you on the 2wd and it may just be the truck for you. In all honesty, if you want to feel more comfortable on the raod(slippery/slush/snow) the 4by is great to have but of course the cost is higher. Fuel, and the price differential are the biggies. I dont think your much of an offroader or a racer(i dont know) but a 2wd may be all you need if your highways are always dry and maintained all winter. I'm mostly on gravel roads and in winter theyre pretty much covered in ice till spring so the 4wd is great.
