Subject: Need Help removing lower ball joints!
IP: Logged

Message:
I am doing a lift on my 97 Dakota 2wd and decided to replace ALL the ball joints at the same time. The problem is that the lower ones are riveted on the lower a-arms. I was planning on just grinding the heads [rounded top part?] off and using a big hammer to pop the rivets out the bottom. I already have the new ball joints, which are held in place by 4 nut/bolts through those holes. Is this a safe plan, or is there something I should know? Thanks!

That works good for the upper ball joints on 2WD trucks, but the lowers come out easier if you drill out the rivets since the ball joint is sandwiched between the metal on the control arm.
