Subject: Selectable Jet Chips?
IP: Logged

Message:
I was nosing around the Summit Racing catalog and saw these Jet chips with a rotary dial selector switch. You supposedly can choose from several different options like towing, performance, or normal driving types.
I'm sure they don't have one out there for the 2001's yet, but was wondering if anyone is using or has tried this setup?
Sounds like a slick trick ... if it works!

Thanks

They are pretty slick...but there's only two versions available for our trucks...Stage-I or Stage-II chips. I'll bug Jet again to see how hard it would be to add the Normal, I, and II features into a switched version.

I thought the chips for the 2001 4.7 were no good because the computer adjusts to cancel them out. I was wondering (if the chips do work) if I should go with a performace chip. I had the dealer upgrade the software in the stock PCM. I still run 87 octane as usual. I like the 87 octane with gas prices the way they are!

The chips do work...if the signal is modified after the PCM reads it, it can't learn.

What do you mean modified singnal?? Is that resetting the computer? Also will I see more gains from the Jet then from the Upgraded Software?

If you already have a modified PCM, the Jet-II won't help you one bit. The "chips" are meant for use in a stock vehicle with minor mods (Intake, Exhaust, T'Stat, sometimes gearing).

The custom programmed PCM's already use a more agressive program and there really isn't any need for a "chip" on top of that.

The Chips modify the signal by intercepting the signal coming back into the PCM and "altering" it for better performance.

Python97 --

Weren't we talking in a previous post about your PCM? I thought that the dealer told you it was a Mopar Performance PCM, but that in fact there really isn't one available yet?

Or is it not a Mopar PCM and is an aftermarket deal?

Blizzard--

My PCM was upgraded from the dealer. On the PCM it says "Authorized Software Update" It says motorolla on it. I dont know if this means it was perfromace upgraded as I still use Regular gas. The dealer said Regular gas was fine. Is there any way I can find out exactly what upgrades were done??

I thought you'd be pinging like crazy with regular gas and an upgraded PCM, but since I don't have one I can't really say. If it is updated they must not have "tweaked" anything too much. Someone else out there who has an upgraded PCM should be able to add more here than me. I can't speak from experience.

If you're running in 87 octane, it's not a Mopar Performance PCM. 100% of the Mopar Peformance PCM's require 92 octane fuel (not recommended...required).

What the "Authorized Software Update" sounds like is a standard PCM Flash Update from the dealer. There's only two people allowed to reprogram the Mopar PCM's anyway...dealers are not allowed. (They can just update them with flash updates, not performance programs.)

From what we've heard, the Jet-II works rather well on the 4.7L. At a slight cost of possibly higher octane fuel (89/92).

If you're that addicted to HP (which a lot of us are anyway), wait for the Flometrics Throttle Bodies to arrive for the 4.7L.

Sounds good to me Bernd. I cant wait for them to come out. I think the PCM that I have now I can live with. If anything from that jet Ill probably get 3 extra horsepower and have to buy more expensive gas. Lets Hurrry with this throtle body already :) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
