Message:

I've never raced my truck at a 1/4 mile track before, and am planning on doing so real soon. Ive heard a lot of rumors about how to get the best performance out of your Dak, but would like some first-hand insight as to what works for you guys. Any tips would be appreciated. Some of my general questions are:

Tranny in OD or Drive?
Best way to launch (rev and release? baby it? etc)
Best TV cable location?

Just some background, its a 99 R/T, K&N FIPK, Mopar Perf. Computer, 180 Tstat, Flowmaster exhaust, stock rubber.

Also, if anyone has a truck modded similar to this, let me know what kind of times you have run, as I'd like to have some sort of reference point (I know it has a lot to do with the driver as well, but I'll be working on that).

Thanks in advance for the input.

Derek

A couple things to try is dumping excess weight! Spare, Tailgate, Tonneau if you got 1. Lower your psi in your rear tires also ! I used to put mine at 25 and got about half a tenth!

Set a bag of ice on the intake after runs to help cool it down!

Keep your overdrive off!! I cross the line at about 4400 rpm's!

Manual shifting has gotten me my best times!
I power brake it to about 12-1400 and just let off the brake at the 3rd yellow and slowly feathered in the gas! Got me on average .600 reaction times. Was getting 2.10's 60 footers on street tires with that!

Dont mess with the TV cable unless you know the exact spot it is stock!

I think thats about it!

Stock RSAs-- Tire pressure-- 18-20 psi.

Stay away from the water box-- (wear long pants, have a helmet ready-- some tracks require one, no matter what speed).

Only do a small burn out (out of the water box)-- just enough to get a little smoke on the tires-- more than that-- and the radials won't grip.

Do a couple hops (punch it after your burn out-- note the amount of wheels spin-- hit the brakes-- from a stop-- do it again-- with less throttle-- note the wheels spin, from a stop try one more-- note the wheels spin (by third attempt, you should have an idea on how well it hooks or not).

Go to the line.

break the first prestage-- roll slowly until you break the 2nd.. STOP!!

Put truck in drive, OD off-- with moapr pcm-- let it shift-- 5200 rpm is perfect for your config. Power brake it up to 1200 rpm-- left foot on the brake-- Yellow-- Yellow-- (POP FOOT OFF BRAKE HERE between the 2nd and 3rd yellow) and hit the gas about 1/2 throttle-- as the truck moves roll into the gas to the floor-- and hold on--

Go to http://www.socaldakota.com/images/vids/Blaneanderson.WMV

You'll see what I mean.

I average .555 lights, have 3 perfects, a few redlights-- have won a few brackets too.

Thanks for the advice guys, I appreciate it. Now its just a matter of remembering everything once I get there. Maybe a little practice around town in the next few days, too...

Not a bad idea. Find yourself an empty parking lot & practice power braking & see how many revs she'll take before spinning the tires.
