Subject: High wattage=melted housing?
IP: Logged

Message:
I need to make my headlights brighter and was thinking about getting some Hella 100w/80w bulbs, but was told by an auto parts place that with "extended use" they would melt the plastic housing. Anybody had any experience with this?

Thank,
BAE

Yes, as well as the wiring. Plus, lights that bright are very annoying to oncoming traffic. You'll get flashed and maybe even shot at.

Riiiight. I plan on aiming them right, as as sorry as the stock lights are, they shouldn't be too bright with something better. My dad's truck has awesome lights from the factory (and he gets flashed some), so I don't think high intensity lights would be that much brighter.

Aight, thanks. I guess I'll give em a try here pretty soon. Maybe I'll be as lucky as you have been with that whole getting shot at thing.

Hopefully, i had mine raised up a bit too, it was to the point that the high beams lit the trees jsut a couple feet off the road and did little for the road itself...

Just get a good pair and you will be satisfied. No more driving by braille at night for you...

What brand do you have? I'm thinking JC Whitney's 100/80 now....Hella's are kinda hard to find.

Correct aiming is the key - as long as your headlights are aimed correctly, oncoming drivers will never know you have overwattage bulbs installed.
I have 80/100s from Midnight Moose and I have had no trouble with dazzling oncoming drivers (with the light), housing/lens melting, or shootings. At least I thought those were backfires...
