Subject: Help! - riding on bump stops
IP: Logged

Message:
Copied from 'Slammed' section:

I've got an '01 CC 4.7, and I used a Ground Force 2/2 kit (spings/blocks), and I've always enjoyed. Lately I've noticed it's a lot rougher,,looked under the truck and at rest it's sitting on the bump stops.

Now I'm not very educated on suspensions at all, but I'm sure that's not good. Does this happen? - do springs weaken in the course of a year?

IF this is bad - I'm thinking of going w/the RT springs up front, or Hotchkis. Anyone have any suggestions on which one I should use. I would like to keep the back the same (lowered 2 inches). Would the RT springs level it out you think?

I'm just really afraid that I'll hit a pot hole and crack/shatter something.

Any help is greatly appreciated as I'm looking to remedy this as quickly as possible.
Thanks,

Andy

Dude, you forgot to follow the instructions with your coils and cut 1/2" off them there bumpstops. You could even go another 1/4 inch if you have smaller tyres. I have the same drop up front

That would probably help huh? - Actually it wasn't me who did it,,,,it was SPEEDTWEAKS here in Austin - guess they didn't do as good a job as I thought they did. On top of that they put my stock shocks back on after the drop. Really pissed me off.......

Everyone on this board should know that Speedtweeks are scam artist. Do asearch of old posts. They sold several thousands of dollars in merchandise that they never shipped nor refunded. It does not surprise me that they took shortcuts on the installations. They have no ethics or business sense. You should go class action lawsuit and put these a-holes in prison were they belong.

When I did I say I didn't provide them w/drop shocks? I did provide them with shocks,,it came as part of the kit from Ground Force. Duh - however; the shocks have no outward markings on them, they are black, and identical to the stock shocks...Duh! I can see anyone making this mistake,,it's a stupid one.

Which means if Genius=Bernd - than you did screw up.

Is it feasible and practical to fully remove the factory bump stops and leave it that way without a bump stop? I pulled the foam-rubber stuff out and it hits the stops anytime there's a decent sized bump. I have the 2" springtechs and they really don't ride that bad. I am however planning on relocating the bolt location on the upper A arm to correct that lean-in. I can feel a difference in the steering with the tires leaning in like that just from a 2" drop coil. If not, where do I get the replacement bump stops that are shorter?

Thanks for any help.

You resting on the stop in the front or rear? If front, remove your a-arms and drill out the rivets holding the factory bumpstops in. Then order some bumpstops from Hotchkis or some other vendor (Western Chassis maybe?) and install them. The factory fronts have a metal cup that takes up an inch an a half or so of travel.

Belltech does. I had the same problem lowering my r/t 2/4. I had to raise the rear back up an inch to stop it from hitting and get there gas shocks because the nitro drop suck. I still hit my bumpstops over hard bumps. Looks sweet though.
