Subject: what is it with dakotas/durangos??

I lost two at the same time, two! I thought somebody stole them because somebody stole theirs. I was wrong, the centercaps on my '00 dakota must have just fallen off. I notice others and they have one or two missing, and the durangos are also missing one or two. Should I consider this a result of the road treatment that Colorado uses on snowy roads, that perhaps it loosens the caps? Anyways, does anybody know where they can be purchased, I don't want to continue the cycle of center cap theft, assuming there exists a theft cycle. The dealership would be a last resort. Thanks!

A lot of R/T rim centercaps get stolen because many aftermarket sets aren't sold with the caps (or are optional) so jackasses just steal them.

I'm not sure how the Dakota center caps are fastened, but my brother has this problem on his PT Crusier. The steel metal tabs which hold them in are not compatible with the aluminum rims (or possibly the center cap - I foget) and they rust/corrode until they fall off. The dealship acknowledged the problem and has replaced several of the already (and managed to pry against the rim to remove one and messed up the rim).

One of mine fell off/got stolen. Basically this is what I did.
I tapped them all. they all sounded loose ( made a clicking sound) I took them all off and I bent all the little plastic fingers towards the outside edge of the cap. Now I went and got a tube of clear GooP and put some on the fingers and slapped them on the rims. havent had one come off and when you have the tires rebalanced they can be removed by pressing them from the inside of the rim. Dont use too much goop cause the stuff is strong.
