I have experienced an inconsistent but becoming more prevalent situation and would like anyone's opinion to guide me on what to do. I can be coming to a slow stop at approximately 10-20 mph -when I lift off the brake to resume acceleration sometimes my truck will experience a "hard" downshift into 1st gear. This does not happen all the time - just sometimes - I'm guessing the torque converter, transmission are in that tweener range with respect to engine RPM's and can't figure out which gear to be in. Any thoughts on this?

we need info on the truck. If it's older it may need new
mounts for trans or engine. Also might need to adjust
transmission cable running to your shifter.
It could be about a 1,000 things causing it. Please be
more specific

2001 QC 4.7 with 39000 miles. I am easy on the gas and find this happens when I feather the pedal. What other info do you need?

pthays, If it makes you feel any better mine did the exact same thing in traffic today. Doesnt happen often. DakotaDan hit the nail on the head I think. Also got clipped by a new 350z as he passed me on the inside, very minor scuff on right rear bumper corner. He kept going, idiot.

My 2001 QC recently started doing this as well. It always happens when I am drasticly changine my rate of acceleration from hard (WOT) to moderate. I think we are just catching the tranny in the middle of a shift and we are reduceing the line pressure right as it is inetiating(sp) the shift. So I would not sweat it.

Chrysler auto trannies as just kind of slow thinkers, BUT, not the only ones by any means. Too much software in cars these days and not enough matching funds in hardware.

The best thing I've done in the last two years was to buy a manual tranny like my old cars and rods.

Yes, I agree!! This Dak QC is my second automatic. My entire family has owned maybe three total. We are a manual shift family for the most part. The wife is the primary driver of the QC and she was getting tired of manual's. It is hard to beat the lower maintence costs, incresed durability, better fuel economy and cheaper purchase price of a manual! So far though my tranny has been problem free.
