Hello, Have been looking on here and all you guys seem to know what you are doing. So here are my problems with my 97 V6, sc. First of all I have a vacuum leak, there is a vacuum plug missing on the intake manifold, if I plug it while the truck is running it dies, if I plug it then start it, it will run, but not stay running, the truck seems to have plenty of power with the leak there, but I would like not to have the vacuum leak. Second the truck seems like it is missing slightly under heavy acceleration, runs smooth down the road at 75 with cruise on, but without cruise on I definately notice slight surging. Lifter noise, loud at idle, is there anyway to adjust the lifters, or does this indicate a more serious problem. These are things I would like to fix, only because they are annoying and might lead to more serious problems, the truck seems to have plenty of power, about 22 MPG, and none of the warning lights are on, any advice would be appreciated.

Try plugging the vacuum leak and then resetting the computer. To reset the computer, disconnect the negative (-) battery cable and then turn the ignition key until it hits the stop and hold it for about 15-20 seconds. Reconnect the battery and start it up. See what that does (if it doesn't die, drive it a few days and test it out). I replaced my bellypan gasket and fixed another vacuum leak last weekend. That has solved some mpg problems and spark knock problems. Good luck.

Travis is correct. Plug it, reset it, and drive it. The PCM has more than likely learned the lean condition and compensated for it over the miles.

Thanks guys, I fixed the vacuum leak last night and reset the PCM like you suggested, it hasn't died on me, but still seems to idle low sometimes, I would assume this will just take a little time. Also I removed the plugs, Bosch Platinums and found little carbon hairs accross the electrodes, have no idea what caused this. Replaced them with the factory champions and still waiting to see if the missing problem is fixed. I appreciate the suggestions.
