Subject: Overdrive Shifting

Hello,
I have a '96 Dakota with the 3.9L V6. Auto with about 183K miles on it. The question is, lately, I will be going down the road in overdrive when I will let off the gas a little bit to slow down a few MPH. When I let off the gas even a little bit, the truck will slam into drive and start turning about 4500 rpm. Until I stop the vehicle, I wont be able to get it back into overdrive as it will stay in drive and just stay at hight RPM's. Someone thought it might be the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) so I changed that and had no prevail. Just wondering if anyone had a educated guess at the situation. If you need to know more details, let me know.
Thank you in advance.

I had a few shifting quirks years ago with my '93. Apparently the compter would "forget" to shift sometimes. I stopped and shot her off - then restarted it (rebooted?) Problem gone.

That happened only 2 or 3 times in that one span of maybe 4 months.

Now she has similar mileage to yours - in the 180s - and no problems - in at least 3 1/2 years...
