I am planing on purchasing Replacement speakers for my '92 Dakota from Crutchfield and want some advice. Has anyone installed some of these speakers in their truck? If yes, then what brand? Do you like them? Do these type of speakers offer any bass. What else should I know about them or installing them, and what other improvements can I make? Thank you!

One proud Gen II Dakota owner!

Well it all depends on how much you want to spend.
Infinity Kappas or Ref series are a pretty good economical addition. If you really want to rock you'll need to get an amp and get either Focal, Boston or Polk Momos components just to name a few top notch speakers.

I just put some Polk DX6's 6.5's in my trucks rear and they sound great. Pretty much a drop in installation. Also, you really should amp them to get the most out of em, really if there is no amp I probably wouldn't spend the money on aftermarket speakers.

Be sure to *go* to a store to hear the speakers before you buy. Take some of your favorite music on CD that you you like. Listen to them at the store. Don't be in a hurry. You can't fool your own ears.

I think that you are looking for 6.5's, but be sure to look it up in the Crutchfield for the easy drop in fit.

As already stated, external amplification may be necessary depending on your decision on which speakers your buy. Off the stock head unit (HU) you're not going to gain a heck of a lot of performance. Off an aftermarket HU, you can get a little more.

You may even want to re-run speaker wire as well.

It's all a matter of how loud and clear ya wanna go. Course, it's all about how much $$$ you want to throw at it.
