Message:
Is exactly the same as a dakota owners view of an S10 owner...

Thinks they are fast, but NOT

Tries to race everything at every light, then brags about their "saturn kill"

Spends THOUSANDS of dollars to still be SLOW

Claims to win races when the other guy didn't even know he was racing...

You get my point.

I'm with handi2. Think whatever the hell you want, we don't care. It's a different truck built for a different kind function. I applaud Ford for building the Lightning and I think it's a cool truck, but until you graduate 6th grade and realize life isn't one big pissing contest, I guess you'll continue to see things as A vs. B and X vs. Y. Besides, I think you were just trying to get this post in before the SRT-10 comes out.

Dude: so everyone on this site are 6th graders? All I have read so far are pissing contests. Lame pissing contests, to that matter.

Drew: an S10 is not your "own size".

I would be careful about shooting your mouth off around here, seeing that your Drof (Driver returns on foot) needs a blower to run 12.8, while there are several naturally aspirated Dakotas that are running in the high to mid 12's.

You want a good race? Run against Duner's 4.7. Then come back and tell us how you did...that is, if you're man enough!

12.8 and you? kinda has a point. Dak owners on this board buy a truck, then try and make it faster and pretty much every time don't get the results they hoped for, so they dump more money into it. Meanwhile their resale and warranty go out the window and it's still just a pedestrian truck. Even the R/T was a sorry atempt, but it was the only thing in '98 so it was the best thing out there. Then the 99 Lightning came out and kicked a$$, did Dodge up the performance of the R/T? No, they kept selling the same truck for six years without doing d!ck to it. It even looks the same now as it did in '98, no new rims or anything and don't bring up that lame a$$ stampede package because it's gay! The regular Daks are just a$$ ugly, so don't even bring up the 4.7 -5 speeds. Oh, and the SRT-10s will be as plentiful as Vipers and no one on this board will ever hope to get one so Dodge shouldn't of even built it because it doesn't do d!ck for the common guy. Dodge will have bragging rights, so what good does it do you guys? Not a thing! Fuk Dodge, I will never buy a half a$$ed Dodge again. Daks can have their a$$ kicked by stock 6 banger Acccords and Altimas! I am getting rid of my Gaykota even tho it has been relieable, there are plenty of slow relieable cars and trucks out there, this one just happens to look fast. If I want fast I will go with Lightning, Harley Supercrew, Silverado SS, Tacoma TRD S-runner or any regular cab GM truck for that matter is faster than Daks. Flame away, Daks are not for real enthusiasts, they are a half step ahead of a 6 cyl. Extremes for cheap a$$es that won't buy a real truck and then make excuses for it like "I can do this and that with the money I saved". I didn't buy this truck to spend money on it, I bought it because it was marketed and sold as a performer and to my regret turned out to be a 15 second dog! I know I should of done more research, but come on, it's supposed to be an R/T. If the SRT-10 is anything like the R/T, it will be a big dissapointment!

Yes, the F-150. Tell me, what good is a freaking truck that literally requires you to remove the engine just to get at 4 of the 8 spark plugs?

How can you trust the electrical system on that truck?

The damned CD player kept screwing up on mine because the engineers placed the stupid HVAC piping so close to the radio that it overheated!

A freaking tie rod end fell off of my '97 F-150, 300+ miles from home. It only had 2,600 miles on it, at the time. Thank GOD it happened in a parking lot!!!!

this argument has gone on for decades.whos fastest ford ,gm , mopar. well they,ve all had their moments. ford-cobras, gm-early vetts, mopar-hemis. now with that said lets get down to it.

if you want a fast truck easy buy a lighting for $38k or buy a dodge, chevy etc for $20k add on the turbo, blower, headers, tires, wheels etc with the $18k you saved from not buying a lighting and pocket the rest for gas.

now lets compare trucks!!!apple to apple, dollar to dollar, performance to performance!!!

now if you compare trucks for what they are built for towing and hauling.car and driver tv just did a show on fords power stroke, chevys duro max and dodges 5.7 hemi.the 5.7 out pulled the ford and chevy diesels.

enough said i believe you can figure the rest out for your-self.

happy trucking.

Raced a few lightnings-- haven't lost at the track yet.

Ford, throw the lightning power plant into a Ranger-- now that would be a BEAST!!

DC's slow showing for performance over the last 6 years was for a reason---

You'll see the results within the next year :)

Wow, I'm amazed on what is going on here! Really, the application of the vehicle depends on the individual.Depending on how the persons lifestyle is. A truck is built for the hard working person. There are several options that you can choose from to make it a hard working truck. Now, If you want a truck to play in.. then yes, you could chose performance models ( if applicable). As which the automotive industry is providing us now.Well, the Lightning maybe fast, but what about tork? The Hemi Ram is fast, but at the same time it'll pull the Lightning around the world, and then some! let's load up the Lightning with cinder blocks, and then see how fast it'll go!

Dodge kept the R/T the way it was w/o a blower for the simple reason I see so many Lightnings here in Dallas blowing their head gaskets or engines. Dodge knew they'd have to deal w/ that under warranty, they aren't that stupid. Ford on the other hand thinks a blower is the answer to everything but people are still blowing up their engines...they had a recall on the blown '03 Cobra engines because of the S/C.

As w/ anyone w/ being fast there comes a price to pay...looks like Ford's paying the price for all their sh!t f!ckin up.

There you go again, Dodge kept the R/T the same because they don't have the resources to do it right and we kept on buying them! If it didn't have the R/T emblems then it is a pretty quick truck with a v8, but the 4.7 is faster. With the R/T emblems it is false advertisment, lies and bullsh!t. Let's stop bullsh!ting each other and maybe Dodge will make a true performer, and not the milk truck sounding, overpriced rice looking SRT-10 that nobody will hardly ever see. Don't be mad at me because I am finally saying enough is enough. I am not the first, I have seen other posts of unhappy R/T owners. At least the 4.7 guys didn't buy under the pretence that it was a performer.

But I'm havin a helluva fun time sitting back watching the Ford guys break sh!t. Yeah sure they may not spend as much as we do to beef our trucks up but they may pay for a better pulley and chip then blow themselves up and pay out the ass to fix that its hilarious!

I'll gladly admit that I'll get beat by a lightning, but consider that it costs about 75% more. It's out of my budget. WAY out. I compare cars based on price classes. Don't compare an F50 to a Corvette. Compare the F50 to an F1 and the Corvette to a Z4.

I find it odd that in Canada I bought my 03 r/t for 29850.00 with the rebate and its fully loaded minus the leather. If you were to convert that to US $$ that is around the high 19 grand area.I have heard alot over the last couple of years about people buying trucks and selling them to our friends to the south for a fair price and the seller also gets a good chunk of change. The 01 r/t that i have just finished paying off was even cheaper two years ago, I believe it was 28500.00 or so.If anyone wants I can get quotes just out of curiousity for anyone that is interested. For some reason trucks are cheaper here!?
