What is the main reason you guys go after dakotas instead of durangos performance wise?

Same engine, same base..

Is it the weight ? I checked and from what i see a quad cab weights the same as a durango...

Also, what is the weight of CC?

A little puzzled.. thanks

My reasons...

1) 5 speed manual tranny
2) it has a bed (a little small, but big enough for most purposes)
3) $9-10K cheaper for a my QC compared to similarly equipped Durango
4) it's a truck

Have you ever seen the back end of an SUV filled with mulch, tree limbs, or horse manure? That's just the reason I chose a truck over an SUV. A CC 4X4 weighs right around 4,000 lbs, the Durango and the Quad are both about 4,500 lbs.

Main reason is weight - my '99 2wd CC Sport with a 318 weighs 4285# with me in it , One of my friends had an '00 Durango SLT 2wd with a 360 and it weighed almost 5400# with him in it.

One good thing about a Durango is they hook great on crap tires - his used to cut 2.14 60' times all day long on 255/65/15 LS's and all mine would do is smoke the hell out of them for about 150' - my best 60' on stock tires was a 2.28 and that was driving it like you were on ice.

Ah, so a CC dakota is MUCH lighter..

Any other major differences between them (besides weight and SUV/Truck) ?

Thanks.

Yeah, my Durango will seat 7 comfortably and 8 if one or two of them are kids. A truck works great for young guys or people without kids. Start having to pack strollers, car seats, playpens, and then other people and you soon outgrow the confines of a truck. I solved the dirt/barkomulch/grass problem by getting a utility trailer.

My '00 QC covers the function of an SUV [which is a station wagon that's easy to get into] and a truck. You can carry 5 with comfort, 6 really snugly in a QC and still get the pick-up's bed function. Depends on what your use-goals are as to which would serve best.

Both good rigs and can be made to run quickly [all it takes is money].

My Dac hits the scales, loaded up and running, at about 5200# and gives me 17mpg highway at 70mph with my present mods. Town gas mileage bites, but that's just the way the 5.9 works.

Looks good, runs well and dependably. No complaints worth listing, except I wish the 5.7 Hemi had been available when I got my rig!!

I noticed this too when I was researching
Daks vs. Durangos: How in the world does a
QC Dakota weigh the same as a Durango?
Clue me in here. The Dakota has the rear
seats, yeah, but it also has a bed -- no
padding, insulation, seats, etc. back there.

weight is a big concern for me (MPG)..

The dakota is slightly longer with a bed, but the durango has the seats/trunk..

also, would their COG be that different? I mean they have the same powertrain, but the durango has a little extra "roof"...

the bed is ncie because you can carry things (something i do sometimes) but the durango is roomy and "waterproof" so i don't have to clean it out when it rains (no i will not get a cover, it'll get scratched up the next day)..

ah, decisions..

Arthus, I'm not sure COG would be effected dramatically-neither is a cornering demon without significant suspension work.

I put a LEER 700 tonneau on mine and have no problems with dry, safe storage. With the use of a BEDEXTENDER, 4x8 sheeting and 12' boarding can be carried safely. (As long as you're not testing the COG :-}) ).

All in all, I like the versatility of the QC. If you're using the rear seats a lot and trying to deal with groceries, the Durango might be the better choice-getting in/out of a tonneau or canopy can be a bit more work than the hatch. If, like me, it is only you and your wife, give the Dac a test drive. I like mine a lot!

I expect that if you treat it right, either one will give you good service. Don't expect the fuel economy of a 4cyl., but the extra power will make up for the fuel stops,...D

Why does 2001-04 Dakota cost more than 2001-04 Durango? Which
is more reliable?
