Subject: do all dakotas ride rough?

I test drove a 93 dakota x-cab LE 4X4 with a 318 and it was the absolute worst riding truck I've ever rode in and I've been in a 66 ford 3/4 ton. I thought being an x-cab it would have a softer ride cause of a longer wheel base than a regular cab, my friend has a 97 chevy full size short bed that rides like a car as did his 91 Ford F150 long bed. when I got out I tried to bounce the rear and could hardly budge it. So were the shocks froze up or is this a common trait on this paticular truck, note the rear shocks looked like they could be originals being the upper tube covers were rusted and somewhat falling apart and the front shocks looked pretty new and the front didn't seem harsh the rear just had alot of bounce. Please let me know I'm interested in this truck but not if I'd put new shocks on and it still rides like that. cause if that was the case I'd be selling it fast.

Thanks in advance
Steve

You test drove a 10 year old vehicle and you judge all trucks with the same name by the way it handled.

Has anyone ever told you that you might possibly be a fukcing moron? Anyone besides everyone you've ever met including your immediate family?

No they don't all ride that rough. Even the one you drove could probably be softened up by some suspension upgrades. There are so many suspension options out there now that you can turn pretty much any suspension on most and vehicle into anything you want it to be. Most of this can be done for well under $1000.

My 01 Quad 2wd, tire and handling, trailer towing options, handles great, and rides like a caddy!

I'd have to say, no, they don't all ride rough.

Mine doesn't ride that bad. I have an 02 quad cab. A couple friends told me that it rides better than their rams.

Depends on what you want. Obviously those that are here must at least like how it rides / drives. Count me in with that group. BUT they do ride like trucks...

My 1996 x-cab is no sports car or anything, but I like the way it rides. It is by far the smoothest truck I have drive out of a 1994 S-10, '90 Toyota, and 1997 F150 (that one got the piss beat out if it, so...)

Thanks for the positive information there gents. So perhaps the rear shocks may be frozen pretty well? I didn't think even though it being a v8 that "may " have a heavy duty towing package that it should ride so bouncy. what are some ways to soften the ride? what kind of shoks do you all recommend for ride quality? I'm not wanting a truck for heavy duty hauling I'm wanting one for the 4wd and the parts hauling capibilitys . what I do like about his truck though is that it is a "mid" sized truck but it has the full size engine. So it less bulky but has the power to tow .. if I'd ever want to and should be semi-respectable for milage. And I give dodge credit on this .. when I opened the hood I expected to see that engine crammed in there but surprisingly they give you plenty of room to work and it had great access to the plugs. So keep the imput rolling in guys espically the ones with the 91 and up V8's espically if you as well have an x-cap LE

Thanks again
Steve

Hey turd wacker,

I test drove a 1947 Dodge Pickemup. Do all dodge pickemups ride so rough?

Dolt. Stick to your Skoda, you're in way over your head.

My 96 x-cab is very stiff in the front but thats becuase of coil spacers. I replaced the old shocks becuase they were getting old. That could be the problem. Get aftermarket shocks for it and you might realize a difference. Also, how many miles did it have on it? That could be a factor too. Are you considering buying it?

Well I can tellyou that this is not a problem on 2001 Dak QC's. That is one are I am very pleased with. If you exclude bump steer especial in hard corners it realy rides and drive very car like. It pegs to be driven a little hard on smooth roads. I would love to take my truck down south to smooth roads and see what she feels like. Michigan roads look like the surface of the moon.

MM the truck only had 94k on it and am still considering the purchase if the dealer is willing to try and correct the problem and make the ride smoother prior to purchase
