 Subject: damage done to 4x4 driveline?

on my '91 CC 4x4 5.2L, while moving I pulled the lever from 2H to 4H. The lever went all the way down to the 4L position.
Did it go in to the 4L gear? if so, did it do some damage? what made the lever go all the way down?

If you put the lever back into 2H are you in 2wd or 4wd?
If you are back in 2wd, try 4H and see if 4wd is working. I am assuming that the linkage let go.

That's impossible - 4L is in the opposite direction from 4H when starting from 2wd. They are at opposite ends of the pattern.
