well the kumhos i bought less thank 12k ago are completely torn up due to bad ball joints. i was just wondering, if there are any other tires that fit the r/t rims and arent 255/55 series but wont throw off the speedo. only tires i can find in 255/55/17 are the goodyear rsa's @ 130 or so each, or the kumhos @ 89 bucks a piece. looking to stay in between those 2 prices for the new tires. any help is appreciated

btw, i have a stock 2wd and am considering putting a 2/2 drop on it in the next few weeks, not for sure though

Go to the tire rack site and check out the Dunlop Sport Rover GTX 2 (255/55/17).
I have had these for 1 year (10,000 miles) and I love them. They corner with a TON of grip, they seem to be wearing above average.

275/50/17 is the next closest O.D. (28")

I wouldn't recoend the Dunlops. I've heard they corner goos, but are extremely hard rubber compound and don't have very good straight line traction(especially compared to the Kumhos) Also have heard they are noisier than the RSA's due to agressive tread pattern. They are sport truck tires so aso have stiffer sidewalls. I thik you will be happy staying with the Kumho 711's. If you don't mind the speedo being off a little and since you are going to drop the suspension, you might look into some 255/50/17 tires. They are 27" vice the stock 28" and only throw the speedo off by 3-4mph when you are doing 80mph. And they read on the high side so you are actually going slower than the speedo reads. There are a lot more optons for tires in that size as well. I've ran 7 differnt brands/types of tires ranging from 275/55/17 to 255/50/17 and the 255/50/17 tires have always had the best balance of price, traction, and handling.

Well, like I said I HAVE them and they do corner great and are not at all noisy at any speed. If you're looking for "straight line traction", then I assume you're talking drag racing launches and that would be a whole different story. My background is of motor racing (dirt track, SCCA, ect.) and I look for lateral grip as well as braking grip.

It does seem that most of the people in this forum are of the steet racing crowd, so maybe this isn't the tire for the fast and furious.

But if you doubt it's grip, than come with me for a ride down my favorite canyon and we'll see you squeels first, you or the Dunlop's. My money's on you!.

Nice truck. Mine is lowered 2/3, which makes
the 28" 255/55/17 tire fit perfectly. Looks from
the pics that yours is stock, but the
wheels/tires fit nice in the wells. To bad there
isn't a larger selection of tires in the 55's.

I like the Nitto NT 450 in 255 or 275/50/17.... good price, look sweet... wear pretty well... The Falkens are pretty nice as well... 275/50/17 wear really well... don't look quite as tough as the nittos...

HSKR the DUNLOPS dont have a lot of road noise in my opinion they offer decent straight line traction and they have very good lateral grip.I would recommend these tires to anyone looking for a good all season tire that wants a tire to last more than a (Good Year)i have 35000 miles on mine and they still look new I also rotate my tires once every 5000 miles too. A gentlemen they other day in a R/T asked me quite a few ? about my tires he stated that he has bought 10 sets of the Goodyears RSA and he absolutely hate them he stated that they last him about 10000 miles and they are balder than my backside (@$$)plus he had a few issues like how much oil he used going to Portland OR and back to Merced CA 8 quarts of oil I was like damn and told him to take it to his mechanic and have him replace the bellypan gasket. He has a 175000 miles on his 2002 CC R/T
