I was wondering if all Quad Cab owners that have a truck cap installed on their trucks could post a nice side-to profile shot of your trucks. I've been looking at a few different models. But I'd like to see how they look on a Quad Cab. Thanks in advance.

Steve-o-reeno,

I've got a Quad with a 'leer' cap, sorry no pics up yet. It's paint matched from the factory.

Others have pics, and of the leer cap featured in a leer sales brochure, it has the side slider windows that come down to the level of the bed, a little more like an SUV window.

I have the pass thru windows, light, power outlet in the back, Yakima roof rack, etc. I like it. I"ve heard good things about shug-top, and A.R.E.

Texas Todd, thanks for the quick respond. So you have the one like is on that QC Dak in the Leer 100XQ brochure? If so, couple of more questions if you don't mind...
How much did it run you with all of those options? And would you reccomend getting one of those compression boots to go between the cab and the cap? The only real advantage I can see with this is if you're going to keep the sliding windows open a lot. Do you agree? Thanks again.

Thanks a lot for the helpful pictures and info. I've got one more question. I'm getting my bed Line-X'd also...well maybe. A coworker got a Leer cap and Line-X as well but his truck bed leaked when it rained. Do any of you with caps and spray in liners have a leaky bed also? I almost think his leaks because he has an F-150 (problem #1 lol) with plasic bed rail protectors. They have some seams in them that I think causes the leaks. Thanks again in advance.

Steeve-o,

You have a nice site by the way.

This is a long reply, quick reading though.

I Took pics of my truck last night, went to my fireman training, and didn't download them yet and I'm at work now. Anyway, to answer some of your ?'s:

My Leer cap was ~$850,
slider window to the cab-$50
Yakima Rack-complete installed form factory-$250

It comes with a REAL bright dome light.
The side windows are 50% sliders also, if ventilation is needed.

The Dak, later gens like ours, has a bowed out outer top of the tailgate-thus making the two lock handles important. I think the two handles are better than the one with the rods going to each side.

I have a 'Perma-Tech' over the rail spray in liner. (same as line-x, etc.)

The place I bought it installs it free, and puts the neoprene strips between the bottom of the cap and the top of the bed, adhered to the bottom of the cap.

I already had the rear slider when I ordered my truck, so the pass thru items, sounds, air, etc. is easy.

I also bought and had them install a clear inflatable 'boot' ring, whidh goes around the opening part of the slider windows from back to cab, thus keeping the rain, weather, etc. out of the connection. (I think this is a must!)-it's cheap ~$10, and EASY to install.

I have the trailer towing package, with the heavy duty alternator, battery, etc.

I had them also install a 12V power outlet in the bed under the cap, and then I have a spitter on that for assessories, etc. I run my sons (2 yr old) TV w/ DVD player, in the cab, or under the cap for longer trips-he likes BluesClues, etc.

I put blankets and pillows, etc. back there for trips, or w/o for hauling things.

All this wiring, is on quick connect plugs, to easily remove and reinstall the cap. (Haven't wanted to take it off yet!)

IT NEVER LEAKS, RAIN, WASH, ETC!!!

I'll try to get you some pics this afternoon of all this (boot, 12V, truck, cap, etc.)

Hope this helps, sorry so long a reply,

Texas Todd, thanks so much once again for the reply. Now that you've said that you don't have any leaks, I'm closer to deciding to get it. Thanks for the future pics if you can get them up. If you want, you can email them to me (vt_steve_01@cox.net) and I can post them for all to see if you don't have any easy way to go about posting them. I'm at work to, but I can FTP into my ISP's server to post them anytime. So whatever's easiest for you.

IF/WHEN I get it, I'm looking at getting the Leer we've been talking about with the sliding windows, power outlet in the back, and the Yakima roof rack.

Oh, and thanks for the compliment on my site. I can get carried away with it sometimes. But it's all good.

Thanks for all the pics and info. I think I'm going with the Leer 100XQ. Now I just need to work up the nerve to plot down the $$ for the cap with all the goodies with it and the spray in bed liner. But thanks again for all the help guys.

Hey Todd, I was looking at those pictures...where do you live at in TX? I spent a summer down there a few years back and stayed with some folks that lived in a development that looks JUST like the one's in your pics. I'm sure that there are many developments that have that style of houses but I was just wondering.

I can't remember the name of the town we were in. But it was in the Timmeron Country Club. It's just north of Dallas. Close to Grapevine Mills Mall. ARG! I can't remember the name of that town. Oh well.

Steve,

Nope, it's just south of HOuston, in Pearland-a suburb town, in a sub-div called, ready for this, 'Southdown'!

I'll check my ISP when I get home, TIA.

I can also take and send some pics of the clear poastic inflatable window 'boot', that seals the cab-cap passage if you like.

RE: front window of cap

I recently bought a tundra which has a vertical sliding window. I'm surprised that I can't seem to find any company that has a front window that opens into the cap, or a larger slider opening, ... or a boot that really keeps out rain. I have heard that they can slip and are leaky. Does anyone have a suggestion for making the most of this big opening in my tundra? Any thoughts are appreciated. -Ron
