Subject: may have to sell m y baby...

Message:
it's so ironic b/c I just picked up my blower from a guy that wanted to drop his mpg because of a new job which was a much longer commute. Now 2 months later I'm in the same damn boat... I've only had my r/t for half a year. I got a job offer I can't refuse but my commute is an hour assuming there are no jitbags anti-war protesting heh. The job would be in center city philly, I live in newark DE so wtf. My wife kind of solidified the fact that I'd have to let it go last night, I didn't think numbers but she has a 03' jetta and goes through 2 tanks of gas a week driving an hour back and forth to work every day. She gets like 20+ mpg... I get around 10 and right now it's 28 bucks to fill my tank with regular so were talking possibly 100 bones a week in gas which is insane. What do you think I should get into? ... I hate most imports and I do want speed along with something robust enough to tweak for awhile.

I was thinking about looking at a 01-02 mustang GT or something but that wouldn't help the mpg too much. If I can nail down a very low interest rate I may just get my truck paid off and roll into something new. Under about 28k would be my budget. It's not set in stone but it's look pretty solid so I want to start thinking about what I'm going to do now. Any ideas? Oh on the import bash, I do like the new 350z alot BUT we just had a baby so that won't work... need something I can fit a carseat into.

thanks!

Subaru WRX TURBO. GEEZ... its a turbo. And it has 4 doors!!! Those are very fast, more affordable than a mustang or a 350Z and probably at least as fast (stock). Lots of companies out there make performance parts for the WRX and your incurance would probably be lower than the other two. I'm sure the mpg's are far better than the other two as well. And you can still cart around yer kid.

if you absolutely have to sell it then yeah the subaru wrx is a great car to get(20k), but heres my option to you, keep your truck and get a new neon srt, those are also turbo charged, come stock with around 220 hp, and still get about 22-24 mpg, and start at like 12k if you cant get a new neon, get a 97 or 99, they are relatively cheap, like 3-7k, and are so easy to modify it's ridiculous........just my $.02

CThomp, it's fast and the awd thing rocks BUT first it's hidious looking, second they have no resale value.. my brother-in-law has been trying to dump his for a year, and third I don't want all the little punks in town aspiring to drive what I drive. I wouldn't be cought dead in one of those man, they sound like sh*t too ... it's like the king of rice mobiles heh, until the new mits lancer comes out, I think it's called the EVO or somthing I forget. I would be embarassed to roll it up my driveway and say hey guys check out my new ride that I paid 25k plus for but looks like a kia rio with "racer" trim hehe

Hey man I'm not bashing you at all man that's just how I feel about those pee-wee cars bro.

here is what I was tossing around...

mustang gt, 01+
supra-TT, 94-95
audi-TT, 00-01

something like that, something a little bigger, little classier know what I mean? NOT more expensive just a more substantial vehicle.

I understand but you are really limiting yourself. Anything that gets decent fuel economy and that you'll be able to tweak will be ricer territory. Just cause it is a ricer "type" vehicle doesn't mean it has to look or sound like a ricer. I saw a ricer with a maganflow muffler on it and it was perfectly quiet. I was actually impressed. He still had go fast sticker which were cheesey but the magnaflow really quieted his ride down.

yeah I feel you cthomp, I guess the neon/wrx look too rally/small. Hmmm what kind of potential does the prelude (01+)have? I think it looks pretty hot and I'm sure it gets 20+mpg right?

I think the prelude was actually discontinued after 2001(I could be wrong). Lots of potential, ricer envy is very high, i've smoked several, 2 doors, no back seat, decent gas milage. I think yer lookin at a catch 22 situation here figit

They do have a back seat...but its very small. I'm sure room enough for a car seat though. You'd just have to wrench it in and out each time.

Fast with a back seat?

Audi S-4 all the way.

Twin turbo 2.7L V-6 with a 6-spd manual tranny adn all-wheel drive. Buy a big exhaust system and a chip from Audi Racing Performance in Auburn, Alabama and walk directly into the 13.00 to 12.90 range. Period. It's that easy.

Hauls major MAJOR a$$ from the factory and it gets 28 mpg.

There's your solution.

SRT= 14's for $20K
A4 = 12's for $40K (that's $38K + $2k mods)

Don't laugh but I bought a 02 Grand am GT with the ram air etc for the wife and stock it's OK. It ran a 15.69 1/4 mile last summer stock which isn't to bad for a 4 door family mobile.We have put a nitrous kit with the 50 hp jets on over the winter and my misses hopes for a very low 15 if not an unlikely high 14 sec 1/4 mile.The car is LOADED with traction control etc and gets great fuel economy when driven normally.Aswell as the cost is cheap,it's American,and there are a lot of after market parts available out there for them right now.Oh and the baby seat will fit just fine!

man I'm going to try and keep my truck, under boost I'm at 1-3mpg... outside I'm at 14-16 so I'm just going to have to tone it down. This whole wanna go fast, get into an import thing kind of scares me. I couldn't afford the audi-S4 although it's a hot a$s ride, keep coming with the ideas though because the wife's not going to dig my ideas of keeping the r/t.

I was thinking maybe head on up to dodge and grabbing some v6 badges and sport stickers and trying to get away with the ol' switcheroo' thing.. just come home and say "HEY BABY, got a nice 00' cc in black just like my old R/T and it's got a v6" .. whatcha' think????

here is an idea. Keep the truck and go buy a beater fro driving to work. that way when the gas prices go down you can sell the beater and drive the truck everyday. My buddy did this when he had his cobra. bought a 800.00 escort to drive to work and drove his cobra after work and on the weekends he saved on gas and didn't put a ton of miles on his stang and was able to keep it. its a thought hell i might be doing the same thing

I drive almost 100 miles a day roundtrip... You gotta pay if you want to play... Keep the truck and jsut put the gas in it.. or get a beater... but do not get rid of your love for a job.. there are more jobs out there than dakotas...

But yes $60-$70 a week in gas does hurt... especially when my wife uses alsmost as much... OUCH....

I'd keep the truck and look for a used Saturn. They have horrible resale value, you could pick one up for a few grand. They're dependable as dirt, get 30+ MPG and can easily accomodate four people or car seats in the rear. We have a '97 SL2 that has been an awesome car for what it's worth.

20+ miles per gallon and still a truck and in the price range your talking about. You could also look at either the Honda Accord or Nissan Altima, both put out 240 HP, get 20+ and are in the price range you mentioned.

What about an Oldsmobile Aurora? I think they're pretty nice looking cars, and it's got 4 doors and a little V8(250 hp) that gets 26 mpg. Or theres the Grand Prix GTP with the supercharged V6 that's pretty hot.
