Subject: Upshift indicator light

Message:
I have a 2001 Quad Cab with 4.7L and 5-speed manual transmission. The Upshift Indicator has never functioned except during self-test. The factory service manual states it should only be disabled on automatic transmissions. But the owners manual seems to lead me to believe it is also disabled for the 4.7L, also (look at the "when to shift" section).

Does anyone else have a 2001 with 4.7L and manual transmission in which the upshift indicator works?

01, QC, 4.7, 5spd manual, etc.

Mine works on the self test too. I don't really look down that much when I'm wrapping it out.

OH, you mean the upshift indicator light? It's an arrow looking thing right? I thought it meant to go faster!!! J/K

I don't think mine works either. I remember the manual saying about it will work erratically until the PCM learns your driving habits.

Are you worried about it?

I am actually hoping that when my '03 comes in next week or so it will be the same as my '00, no light...

Count your blessings that it doesn't function! To anyone who knows how to shift it only provides an annoying distraction. It was a happy day when it quit working on my '87 Jetta.

I was *so* happy to see my new 2002 QC didn't have a functioning shift light. If it is supposed to function I certainly won't take it in for a warranty repair.

I have a 2001 4.7 5sp. and after i had purchased it noticed that the shift light didn't work except on start up. I asked the dodge place and was told that the light is disconnected from the factory because of some problems they were experiencing with them or a part in connection with it. No problems to be worried about, just be happy you don't see it everytime you hit 2000rpm.

on another note,my 98's works perfect. I thought it would be cool to make it adjustable like the aftermarket ones, but nobody but you would know it. That way you could be consistent at the track. Just a thought. anybody tried this or has the same idea?

The upshift indicator on my 04 SLT V* 4.7L 4x4 5spd manual does not work either. The service manual says that the indicator panel must be programmed to act on an upshift request message from the computer. The service manual also says that the light will come on for three to 5 seconds and then go off.

I am glad that mine does not work. I had one on a Ford Escort and the thing drove me crazy. I wound up covering the upshift indicator with black electrical tape.

I am just concerned that if Dodge forgot to program the indicator light, what else have they forgotten?

2003 Quad Cab 4x4 4.7 with a 5spd manual.

The indicator light displays during the test at startup, and I AM GLAD, otherwise I would be pulling the bulb out or shutting it off somehow, those things are ANNOYING!

Like most say....BE GLAD IT DOESN'T COME ON!

They won't work on any 4.7 QC. They are only there for the V6 QC's. It is a standard feature, but when you upgrade to the 4.7, it is no longer available. I guess they figure 4.7 V8's shouldn't worry about mileage.

I have a 2003 RC 4.7L 5 sp. It doesn't come on either except for startup. My 2003 RC 3.9L 5sp does though. I thought it was a problem at first, but I think dkr8611 is right.. If you have an 8 who cares when you shift.

Yup same here with the 03 rc 4.7 5 speed, i just figured that it would tell you in the owners manual that it will not come on with the V8, I would not mind making a high rpm shift light out of it some how
