Boy am I pissed!I have a '98 5.2 4x4 SLT with 63,000 miles on it and my trans is slipping in and out of 2nd gear. Any suggestions for repair, or am I doomed to shell out big bucks for a new one? Suggestions on a new one?

Change out your Governer Pressure Seleniod in your transmission. $110 from the dealership. Very common problem.

Thank you Simpleman96 and Jakdak...I'll look into your suggestions and what culminates. Should I do one before the other? Any other possible remedies? It's great to have this forum to discuss Dakota matters - and again I appreciate your help!

Try to adjust the T.V. Cable first. Do it first because it will not cost you anything.

I wouldnt bother trying to adjust the cable. If it wasn't doing it before than its not the cable.
