It took twice as long for oil pressure to come up this morning. THe power steering felt like I was pumping grease through the system!! The truck did not roll freely when you let of the gas. It would quicly slow down like a brake was gradding because the friction from the fluids was so great!!

You think that's cold.....I had temps down to about -32F here without the windchill last week! With the windchill it was down to about -45 or so.

Yah so what it was over -30F here in good old Michigan and I don't have any problems with fluids and I work at night when it is even colder. Maybe the Mobile 1 Supersynth stuff I pay like $45 a case does work. I love the cold it is so good for you, plus the colder it get the more salt and rocks, err, I mean sand they put on the roads. Where are you at Sandman? I don't care what anybody says the upper Midwest and East Coast should be included in the Artic Circle, and spring dosen't come till May not in like 20 days!

up here in saskatchewan it regularly goes down to -40C before windchill, last week it was below -50C with windchill. vehicles dont like to start in that weather. tires freeze, piston slap sounds pretty neat and oil pressure? ahh a thing of the past. although i woudnt mind hearing a cummins try to start in that cold. good times.

You Canidians are comparing apples to oranges with your "C" -vs- "F" temp readings. Sandman said it was -11 F which is about -24 C (actually ironically the F and C scales cross at -40 which is very cold). Both are too damn cold for me who works outside all day! It was down to 8 F last night though (-13 C for you canuks!) then again we got 8 inches of fresh snow as well, good day to have off :). The forcast was for "light snow", well it was a nice fluffy 8 inches. Tomorrow and Tursday call for just plain "snow". So much for the low snow pack. I remember the winter I joined the Navy and moved to Florida (late 1988) this area was running -40's or worse with windchills around -75 F, not a bad year to move to Orlando!

I say we give global warming a chance!

I am sandwiched between Flint and Lansing. I normaly use nothing but synthetic but my last oil change I had to do the blend thing!!! It was either that or plain dino all together. After the body shop repaired my truck I wanted to chage the oil since the oil cooler and radiator were damaged and replaced. I am going to let the dealer do the 30,000 mile trany service so their will be a record of it in their system and so they will find any thing like friction material in the pan etc.... if their is any. If I do it and find material I am sure they will try to weasel out of warranty work. If they do it and find something wrong I am sure it will be a different story. I am also going to ask them to collect an oil sample from the trans so I have a record.

OK, first of all Hersbird we are Canadians (not Canidians), but more importantly most of us specified what temp we were talking about (F or C). That's why I put it in F so all you Yankees would realize how cold it actually is. BUT you are right, -40 C is the same as -40F, so who cares, it's just too damn cold!!!

You would need to treat your fuel if you tried to get a Cummins running in that weather. Hell, you would need to treat regular fuel.

It hasn't been too terribly bad here. I wont dare to start my 1990 RX-7 I just got in this, but the truck starts up without a peep every time.
