Subject: Should I buy this Ram???
IP: Logged

Message:
Hello, at my local Ford dealer (I could barely get myself to drive into the parking lot with my Dak), there is a 02 Ram w/ 4 doors, 4.7 with the tow package, 20inch wheels, and every other option except leather, including fog lights, bedliner, molding, leather steering wheel and the deluxe overhead console computer, with onle 12000 miles on it! And the price is 22000! What do yall think about this? Oh and the color is garnet with the slt package. The only thing I dont like about it is the taupe interior (I like the agate) and it doesnt have the rear sliding window. So please let me know yalls opinions! Thanks!

I have actually heard that the 4.7 in the Ram is underpowered. Just think about it, the truck is nearly twice the size as our daks, but it has the same engine??? I know guys with them and they are dissapointed.

Having had a Ram and a Dak, I wouldn't want the 4.7 in a Ram. Heck, the 4.7 is underpowered in a Dak unless you get a 5-speed.

Look for an '02 leftover with a 5.9 and you can probably get a good deal. The extra torque makes a difference in a Ram over a 4.7. I've heard from more than once source that the new Hemi is having some growing pains in terms of reliablity.

Ive heard that also, my Dad bought a loaded 02 ram with the 5.9, it is a absolute beast! I know a guy that has the 4.7 in a Ram, and now that you mentioned it he said it was underpowered. I didnt want my Dodge to sit at a Ford dealer for sale anyways, lol.

One of the guys here at the lab bought a 03 Ram with all the options, 4.7 with the 5 speed automatic( standard on 03), 20" wheels which comes with the 3.90 rear axle. It's not under powered by any means. If you want a Ram, I would suggest that you look into a new one as the interest rate is going to be lower than a used one which means the payment will be close to being the same. He paid $24,500 including TTL.

I am very partial to buying a new vehicle too. I just like to know that what ever blemish I see, that I did it. Gives me a kind of peace. But all in all I decided to just keep my dak (I do love it), it will be payed for in about 1.5 years, so its net worth will be worth way more then. That is if I will wana trade it, I will probably just keep my dak for life......If Im set finacialy in a couple years.

I work at a dodge dealership and drove and 03 ram 1500 with the 4.7 with the manual transmission behind it(2wd). I was pretty impressed with it. The 4.7 doesnt have quite as much power as the 5.9 but it is a much smoother motor and gets better gas mileage. But you are right it needs the manual trans or it seems to run out of breath.
