Just picked up my 2003 qc 4wd. I love the truck but there isn't much storage inside! I want to keep the back open for seating so where do you store tools, straps, jumper cables, extinguisher, etc. The split front bench seat has a huge fold down armrest but it doesn't open! Seems like a real missed opportunity.
Where do you guys keep your stuff?

rockgod,

Oh, My, God!

J/K

I put a few things under the back of the rear seat. the pass side already has the jack and tools there. I use the driver side, behind the back of the rear seat for a few things. Seems like a thin extinguisher would fit under the driver/pass front seat.

As far as storing much, or alot of tools, there's always the bed.

ON my split bench front seat, the folding armrest has a large area in it, folds up for a small third front seat. Did they change something? MInes an 01 QC.

I have an 02 qc with the split bech seat, on the front of the fold up portion there is a release that I am sure Rockgod has missed. Put your hand on the top of the center armrest in the center.
Reach your fingertips over the front edge of the arm rest (twards the climate controle) and push in. you should be able to open that compartment.
As for tools, I installed a small bed toolbox in the bed of my qc. It is removable and does not stick up enough to hinder a bed cover.
It works perfect for me, Jumper cables, Chain, tow strap, booster pack, 100 piece toolkit, with room for a jack and a floding shovel.
I wouldn't want to live without my toolbox but it is eaisily removeable for the days that i need the entire bed.

Thanks for the replies. I checked the armrest again and it definitely does not open. I hope I can retrofit one from an earlier year.

Texas Todd, I don't have hardly and room under the rear seat and none behind it. Where in Tx are you? I'm born and raised in Austin.

I looked at power sunroofs today. A local shop does them for all the local dealers. Very professional. The overhead console is short enough to not be a problem but the ribs on the top of the roof make for a more difficult installation. I was going for a power rear sliding window, but the sunroof would sure be cool. They said they do them on the ribbed roof Grand Cherokee's all the time. Has anyone done this?

I just picked up my 2003 SLT Plus Quad cab with 40/20/40 split bench front seat. I ordered the truck because I did not find a truck on the lot with all the options I wanted. The armrest on mine does not open either. It has a sewn in seam where the opening latch belongs. I have gone through the options list and see nothing about it! I have my dealer looking into it because the truck I test drove had one, it is listed in the owners manual, and it is shown in a picture of the 2003 sales brochure. It is almost like the factory ran out and just stopped putting them in!!!

Ditto. I just picked up my 2003 QC SLT Plus, just in from the factory. It doesn't have any storage in the center armrest either, but the truck I test drove several weeks ago did.

I am going to contact the dealer. If anyone finds a replacement armrest in the meantime, please let me know.
