Subject: SUB BOX for 02 quad cab
IP: Logged

Message:
I'm putting together a system for my 02 Dakota Quad Cab but I;m looking for a box that will fit in it... I have been looking at the thunderpass box from MTX that fits 2 10" subs under the rear seats, however it appears they show them in an extended cab not a quad cab. Anyone used one or have a similar setup in their quad cab? I'm trying to make this easy and not waste money trying out products only to find they don't fit...

Thanks for any info!

they dont fit in the quad cab, only the extended cab, look under your rear seats and u'll see why u cant fit subs under there, hell my amp barely fits. ur options are to either build a custom box behind the rear seats, build a custom center console (which ill be doing soon) or put a box in the back seat but will lose passenger space

Thanks for the info! My center console is different, I didn't get the bench seat in the frint with the fold down, I have the fixed center console. I was thinking about maybe customizing that to fit 1 10" sub sideways between the front seats...I'm not sure how that would sound though...maybe the best bet is to just build a center console for the back seats with the sub and then still have some room for passenhers. I want to make it easy to disconnect without having wires all over the place. That way if I need the space I can easily remove the subs.

the way mine is right now is that i have 1 10' sub w/ a small box in the foot area of the back passenger seat so they can still sit back there, this is just temporary for me tho cause i plan on building the console when i have some free time

I built a custom box that fits behind my drivers seat, with the seat folded up. I mounted the amp to the box so that if i need the space i can pop the whole thing out real easy. I'm 6'1" so there really ain't much room behind me anyway. I have the titanium, dual V/C, 10" eclipse sub which pounds like hell.

I took TonyC's idea and ran with that.
I put custom bucket seat up front so there was no need for me to replucate the stock look.
I used two JL w3's and a PG 600.4 tantrum for power. My box sits where the center console is and we were even able to mount the fold down armrest back on.
My box is a little bigger than TonyC's to acomidate the correct airspace. Sounds incredible.
I was able to mount the amp behind the driver side rear seat and still fold up the seat when needed. Very clean install without loosing any space. Thanks TonyC!

Jaggy,
Your Welcome! Anyone who has used this setup is really happy with it! It is amazing how much sound comes out of that little box.

If anyone else needs any help building a console sub box, I have more pictures than what I have posted on my web site and also a detailed explaination of how the box was built. I'll be more than happy to help out in any way I can.

Sounds like a box in the front center console is the best way to go without sacrificing passenger space. I have the factory center console without the bench seat so I can't use Tony C's layout...but that looks GREAT! I've been debating whether I want to put a 10" sub sideways in the unit and build a custom box that will fit inside the console. The console is 7&1/4 inches wide so it's just narrow enough that an 8 won't fit flat. So I figure if it has to go sideways, why not fit a 10" in there...I have a few laying around anyways (Alpine ZR10's)... My boss owns a car audio store right up the street from where I live so I have access to pretty much anything for car audio...We plan to have some fun and go to town on my Dakota...I'll let ya know what we end up with.

that's the link to it. Doesn't say all that much, holds a 10.. But fits the Quad Cab.

That's pretty cook Motorsport (I was thinking it was gonna be the RAM one you were talking about; but you were right)

MotoDak, I've seen everything to anything on how to add subs to the QC. Here's the list to date:

1) TonyC's console box;
2) a box that has the plastic console cut so that a 10" SoloBaric slides underneath it (Not much room sacrificed to the passengers; but affects the console space left
3) 12's behind the back seats (they drilled new mounting brackets to move the seat up 1-2";
4) 6 1/2 bazooka tubes (Not much low end bass
5) One 8' sub behind the Driver Rear (.3 cu ft; mnt death of 5"
6) Two 8' sub behind the rear (requires the jack to be moved. (same box size)

I get my truck next week and will be going with Option #6. I listened to a buddy of mine's 8"s that kicked ass in a porsche. I know it will be a little less cuz they have to go through the seats; but it should still be able to go low. I'll have pics up on the whole install if you can wait a week....

The thread was kinda old buddy. But none the less I was curious to see a box made exclusively for a QC Dak.

Here's mine. I had to do some TRICKS to get the box to fit. Some grinding and welding. And drilling some offset holes to move the seat forward 1.5 inches.

That's a one cubic foot ported box. The sub is a Rockford Fozgate HE 10 inch. It's like running two MTX subs.

Here's what my back seat looks like after.
You can hardly notice the mod. The speaker is hidden. I modded the seat backs to lift and fold DOWN to access the sub and the amp.
It's pretty damn loud. I've been running that box for a while now.
