So I'm shoveling the snow out of my bed today right, when I decided to pull out the stock "peel-o-liner" bed liner off to let it dry, there's been more than 15 inches of snow in my bed for 4 days. Anyhow when I pull it off I notice a TON of surface rust, my first assumption was oh man.. last owner must have hauled a bunch of sheet around w/o the liner which led to scuffing etc.. so anyhow, what would be my best option to prevent any further rusting?

I was thinking maybe going with a light sand then rustoleum but is that good enough? Is there some type of heavy duty sealer that I can use.. maybe even that rubberized undercarriage paint? Like I said, the rust is very minor but it's all over the place. What do you guys think?

thanks!

Take it in to get either the Linex, or Rhino lining installed. he shop will prep the surface for you as part of the install. Or, sand it yourself and get the do-it-yourself roll on Hurculiner kit. Then just throw the liner away.

yeah man that sounds like a plan, the rhino lining that I've seel looked pretty sloppy though. I imagine it's extremely tough tough, that roll on idea sounds like a perfect idea though. Any idea where I can find the kit? Yeah the liner is definatly going in the trash, either that or I'll use it to seran wrap some steaks or something ... I cant believe how thin it is!

thanks a ton man!

I'm going to pull my bedliner out and
Herculiner the bed, then reinstall the bed liner.
(as soon as it warms up) The Herculiner will
be used to keep the factory drop in liner from
rusting the bed.

My two cents,
Lemmers

I used the roll on liner from Wal-Mart. Pretty cheap as far as price, I think it was $50.00 bucks a gallon. One gallon will probably only put one full coat on though. I bought a second gallon, and will re-apply when I am done building my house. The single coat is working awesome, I have hauled rock, cinder block etc, and the liner has yet to give up.
Roll on part easy, prep (sanding) pain in the a$$. I went ahead and bought a sanding disc you use a drill with to sand the bed. Make sure you sand good, or you will be peeling sections off by summer.

My dad had the same problem. His was because he bought a new truck and then traded it in the next year on another new truck. Well they redesigned the entire truck so his old liner rubed more then it should have. After 5 years of this it had rubed through the paint in his bed everyplace that it made contact. We sanded all the surface rust down with emory cloth and the scuffed the other surfaces and installed Herculiner. It worked great. It sealed up the bar metal and protected the rest of the bed. We reinstalled the liner after that. I also did the Herculiner on my 2002 Dak. The Herculiner was $69 at Sams Club. I used the gallon can and was able to put two coats on my Dak. I still have the the extra 1/2 gallon for touch up and have never opened it. So one herculiner kit will do the bed two times over and maybe 3 times over. You really have to scuff the heck out of the paint to get it to stick!
