Check the cap and rotor. What brand plug wires did you use?? And what plugs?? It's not unheard of to get bad wires or plugs, and if you've never changed your cap and rotor that is probably the main culprit.

Justin, dude, your asking how to change a distributor cap and wires?

If you're really worried, do one wire at a time, to the new cap, matching it up to the old one.

I don't have a distributor cap (4.7), but when I did, I pretty sure they only go on one way, there's usually a groove that won't let you put it on backwards. If you don't loosen the distributor locking bolt, you won't change your timing. (In the old days of 'points'-remember those anyone?, you HAD to retime the engine.)

Yea, maybe you should let a shop do it.
