Okay, my 02 2wd quad cab has the 4.7. It was the end-of-the-year-whatever's-left-on-the-lot bargain. It also has the 9.25 rear, cool, 3:55 gears, cool, open diff, not so cool. Went to the dealer (for grins) and inquired about the locker differential. It's not just a swap out. Besides taking out the diff, I'd also have to replace the ring and pinion. I might start looking at some salvage yards to see if there might be a totaled truck. But I don't want to blow the warranty. Any ideas? I'd like to have the LSD.

Unless they really changed the way rears are made, you can have a LSD added. I had one put in my 8.25 and no gear change. If warranty is a issue, might try another dealer. If you want to do it anyway, find a good trans/rearend shop and add a 3.92 gear set to the change. Cost a little more, but you will like the results.
