Subject: Pricing on a 96 Dakota?

Message:
I'm looking to buy another 96 Dakota.. I found a two tone (red and gray) V6 automatic. Has Tilt, Cruise, PW, PL, Air, etc.. in decent condition. But it has 128,000+ miles on it, and there's cigarette burns "ALL" over, some in places a cigarette shouldn't be!!! But 98% of them are on the seats.. which I have my old ones to replace them!
There asking $5995.00 for it on a payment plan?, but are excepting offers of cash.
What do you guys think ("realistically") is a good offer. I don't care about miles really, Being I have my old V6 that I can swap in it. Although I'm not going to tell them that!
I would think with the high miles and the burns I should be able to talk them down some.. There are also other little things missing like the power mirror nob, the top to the compartment under the rear seats, and it's doesn't look like it been cleaned. It definatly been used! But I think I can make her work!

Sorry for the long winded post! But what do you guys think?

I think they're asking too much at $5995. Consider the following.

My '95 SLT is a 318, 5 speed, CC, 3.55 lsd, cruise, tilt, A/C, CD, sliding rear window, bedliner, and had a fiberglass cap when I bought it. The body is excellent, virtually no rust.

I paid $5500 and felt that I paid a fair price, maybe even a good deal. With 128K on the clock, cigarette burns, etc. $5995 is too high. Do an Autotrader search for similar make/model/options. That will give you a good idea of what stuff is selling for.

Wow Bill..
I think you'd be suprised at what some of these older Dakotas are going for!! I found a couple of them at $8000.. V6, 2x4's, with 100,000 on em!!
I couldn't believe it! I bought my 96 in 99 with 32000 on it for just under 10,000.. people are crazy! But I still think that you're right.. For the condition that this one's in, 6000 way too much!
I did find a 95 Reg cab, V6 in the Autotrader. High miles but he's only asking $2500. Way closer to what I want to spend!
Anyway thanks for the suggestion, I appreciate it.

I paid $5800 for a 95 CC 4X4 3.9 V6 with 92,000 miles on it last year. Very clean, no damage, no problems.......

Maybe they are asking a bit high on that 96 your looking at, but then again, they seem to be kinda hard to find in decent shape!!! Offer 'em 5K even and tell 'em you'll take it as it is!?

Yea, but lest we forget yours also has: 4WD, 30,000 less miles, it's clean and damage free!

This thing wouldn't even compare to clean!
But,I'm talking with the guy that's got a 95 Reg Cab. Seems resonable.. we'll see what happens..
Thanks for your imput!

I just bought a 1993 reg cab Sport, 3.9, auto with 90,000 miles for $1700. It needs a paint job, but other than that, it is fine. Just have to look around and not buy the first one you see...
