Subject: Vibration at 100+

Message:
For a while now, I have had a problem with a slow vibration coming from my truck when I go over 100 MPH....I had a new driveshaft installed because I bent my old one....that was 2 years ago. Last spring I had a new tranny put in and the tech told me that the tailshaft bushing was grenaded porbably due to the bad driveshaft. I was wondering what the problem is...could the driveshaft be out of balance. if it is, could that be fixed?
thanks

Just how often are you driving at 100+ mph, and for how long, that vibration would be a problem? Slow down man, lifes too short.

If I had a vibration at 100 I'd ask about it too.

I believe that the LOWEST speed rating on any DOT approved passenger tire is S(or is it H), which is 114 mph. I also believe that the speed rating is measured for sustained speeds, not short burst.

Holy ShiY, I am tired and on here rambling on about tires. WTF

good night

Get tires spin balanced up to 70 mph, get driveshaft rebalanced. Have u-joints replaced.

I have that same vibration, but it only happens when I let off the gas at 90 or higher.....

I think it's the u-joints.

Not too good.

Buy A sports car. Its a Truck it's not designed nor intended to be driven over 100 MPH, therefore it could be anything. It's just not safe to drive a truck that weights over 3000Lbs. and is not designed to go that fast ... that fast. Thats why they put a govenor on these things ...

I have a slight vibration at 110mph, but is seems to go away above 125mph or so. I think it's the drive shaft, it was never intended to go that fast so the +/- tolerence needs to be a little tighter.

For diagnoses purposes, if you haven't check your tires for road force, you might kick yourself for replacing u-joints and getting you driveshaft balance checked. Alex is correct those could fix your concern, but if bringing you truck to the right shop to balance your tires. is 40 bucks would that be cost and time effective verses removing the shaft and buying u-joints. Basically make sure the heavy side of the tires aren't on the heavy side of your rims. A normal balncer will not tell you this. We have the "Benford Balance 5000" at our shop and you can balace a wheel with road force and it won't feel right. I have some cheap Dunlop 9000 Z rated tires that elliminated my vibration over 100(better than the Comp TA's). This is good being that I go there often.
Good luck.

You all scare me.

You drive a truck and you assume it's fast. Do what you want, and think what you want, I drive my dakota to pull my JetSki's and take me to work in the morning. They are NOT fast .. they weight to damn much, they are not intended to be fast .. they are nothing of the sort. To see a S-10 in your Rearview is like passing a bus, ... not hard to do. Do yourslef's and other people on the road a favor, slow down ... and leave yourself room to stop that 2 ton 'truck' ... truck being the keyword here.

And if anoyone is the N. Cali area cares to prove their trucks speed on a legit strip in the area, just say when.

I have both humor and adventure coarseing through my veins. In my state if you get pulled going 100mph or faster you lose your liscense for 3-5 years automaticly. I like to eat and work more then go fast. I grew up driveing 165MPH and faster on the German Autobahn but I am in the U.S. now. If you like speed that much you should keep it to the race track not on the roads. I love to see you try to stop that truck at 100MPH. Those crappy brakes or Daks have are worthless at those speeds.
