Just bought a '93 club cab 4X4. The steering is loose but no noises or clicks - just loose. The guy I bought it from said the mechanic quoted him $100-$200 to fix and that it had something to do with the linkage. Also was told that it wasn't a repair that needed to be done immediately. Any clue what the main problem could be?

Thanks much!

loose steering
tie rod ends, ball joints, the rubber bushings that the rack and pinion mount on with a bolt(i dont think the 4x4 had a rack),the sway bar bushings and linkage.ideler arm ,steering gear arm
does she pull to one side, uneven tire wear?
further more anything in steering linkage needs to be looked after immediatly, its all that keeps you in controll, loose steering in an evassive maneuver can cause you to lose control by over correcting and pitching the body out.
my experience with my own 93 came up to ball joints, when they click there about ready to fall off but they can get loose, and the steering can feel loose as a result.
the best way to is to get under the truck with out the engine running and have a helper move the steering wheel back and forth not all the way just moving it ,you should be able to pin point the problem looking for excessive movement. but for the ball joints you well need a pry bar to try and move them up and down with the weight on them ,or jack the truck up and put one hand on the bottom and another on top of the wheel and try to tilt the wheel in and out from top to bottom ,not side to side if it moves your into a ball joint(s)
