Alright, heres my delima:

Right now I have a 94 SLT with the 3.9L. It's in the best possiable shape, no rust and low miles.

I graduate from high school this summer and I was thinking of getting a V8 dakota, I'll be working full-time so I could afford a used one, but there hard to find in this area. I was hoping for 94-00 RC/SB with the 5.2 or the 4.7.

Well, I can't make up my mind so far, need everyones advice.

Speaking from experience if your truck is such low miles and in great shape the best thing you can do is WAIT! Really, get the use out of the truck you already paid for. Trade in won't get you much compared to the new trucks cost. Have some fun with that money coming in. It blows having to sit at home on the weekend cause the truck is eating your check.
But if you insist (or are getting one sweet check) I would get the Gen 3 with an extended cab and a v8.
Not trying to run your life, just some advise I wished I had thought about at your age. Really, you don't have a dilemma.

If it's in good shape yet, drive it for a couple more years, save your pennies, and buy one with that hemi that's supposed to be coming out!

That is one idea I am considering, or maybe getting a 360 out of a van or a ram and droping it in with a new tranny and a tougher rear end.

I don't think you know how much a newer truck will cost per month (about $170 per month for every 10,000 financed) plus full insurance b/c it is financed, plus increase fuel bill b/c of the bigger engine.

Stick with what you have for a while, put some of that money into modding your already nice truck and put money in the bank for later on.

Kris, I wish someone had told me things like this when I was 17 but I had to suffer and learn from mistakes (at age 28, I've had 5 trucks since high school prior to my Dak). You won't have any money left if you buy a newer truck so save with a goal in mind and stay debt free.

After 9 years in the same Dak there is no way short of an act of God or criminal that I am getting rid of mine. It is real easy to justify mod work when there is no payment to be made!

Yeah,I had a 94 Dakota Sport that (pictured next to my truck on the bottom of album 4 in the center). I lost that to a drunk driver who t-boned me doing 40mph, unfortantly he had no insurance, my insurance covered all the damages. I still lost $5,000 that I spent all my childhood years saving (I'm 18, saved every dime from 7 years old to own a nice vehicle). He hit me on the drivers side behind my door and came inches away from killing me. The only injuries I had was some badly brused cartilege in my knees and plenty of bruises. I was so depressed when the insurance company totaled it out, it always hurts to see your first vehicle go like that. I needed a vehicle and quick, and of course wanted another Dak. I tried for the V8's but they were way out of my price range. So I found the one I have now, about 80 miles away from my city. It was a 94 SLT that was stored every winter and only had 32,000 miles on it. This guy treated it like a show car but had to let his baby go to afford a new house he was building. So, I took it out for a test drive and it was a lot better than my old dak, only paid $8,000 when Kelly Blue Book was around $9,500 at the time. Now it's a year later and I do get a little disapointed at the V6 sometimes but, when you a student and only make a little $$$ it's still pretty damn good.

To see some pic's of the passenger side of my totaled dodge ( drivers will be added soon) go to:

I'll talk to you guys again, and thanks for reading my novel! hehehehe

Alright, another twist in my delimma. I have decided to keep the V6 and keep moding her and putting some miles on it. Well, today a lowered 95 RC/SB V8 pulled up at my work, looks exactly the same as my old dak, except for the V8. I talked to the guy for at least half an hour about our dakotas. His impressed me very much, as I hope mine did to him. First of all, it had a western lowering kit with 97 Rims and BFG radials. I liked it so far until he popped open the hood, then I wanted it bad! 318 with Mopar equal length headers and mopar cat-back, ported intake manifold, ASP underdrive pulleys, jacobs ignition, Mopar PCM, D&D TB, etc. etc. I told him how I have been looking for dak like this for at least 2 years. I asked if he planned on selling, not yet was his reply. I still gave him my number just incase and this website address, Marty, if you reading this I'm glad you got around to seeing the site. And give me a call, we need to talk! Hehehehee, man, I got one big headache, I need to slow down!
