Subject: valve tapping IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2001 3.9 V6 Dakota, when I am going up any kind of hill there is tapping from my valves, I tried changing gas and gas grades. On level ground there is no tapping. Had it to 3 dealers with no luck, even had the intake gasket replaced. Only has 11,000 on the odometer! They said they could reprogram the computer, but that would kill my power and milage. Anyone else have this problem?

Message: I don't have any valve tapping problems, but I used to on a previous vehicle. I noticed if the oil was low, or hadn't been changed in 4k miles, then the valves would chatter under heavy load (uphill or hard accellerations).
When was the last time your oil was changed and how gunked-up are the valves/heads?
