I need to buy a new truck. PLEASE help by posting if your Dakota is a '01 or newer and has engine oil sludging problems in Southern California; also if you have a paint problem.

MANY, MANY thanks for your input!

Texas, no sludge, (yet anyway, 31K)

Pearl white paint, no probs, stays in my gargae all night, and a covered parking garage at work, I think that helps, but I know isn't always possible.

if you changed the oil every 3,000 miles,
you wouldn't have sludge in a magnum motor.

There is no such color from the factory on a Dakota...(pearl white).

It is either white-no pearl...

or it has been repainted.

While all of the new 4.7 V8's seem to have a problem witha white milky accumulation in the oil filler neck no one on ths site has ever found any in the engine any place. I have not seen it in my oil or oil filter. I only get this in the winter time. My Toyota also does this but not as much as my dodge. I would not call this sludge at all. Sludge is only formed from lack of maintence and cheap oil. DC improved their paint system shortly after I bought my truck april 2001. The new paint system sure looks good. I did have a few issues with mine but not enough to warrant a repaint.

dakguy,

My paint code on my SLT QC is: PW7

Sorry, I was told it was Pearl White, sorry

It's two tone with the silver (metallic I think?)on bottom.

Yeah, I have a paint problem and live in So. Ca. Palmdale area. I have an Emerald Green color 98 gen 3 Dak and I'm building a white film on the hood and roof. Took it to a local detail shop to see if they could buff it out and they couldn't. It's the clear coat comming off. You can't really see it except when looking closely in the right angle of light. Sure would like to find a way to fix this problem before it gets worse without having to do a repaint. As far as oil, no problems. Been using Castol synthetic since day one and it all looks brand new with 81000 miles on it. Yeah, I do the 3000 to 4000 mile thing, but hey I really don't drive this truck on a daily basis.

sludging is a problem for all teflon coating on newer engines acts as a heat lock and raises the running temp cooking your oil faster while engineers tried this to extend intrevals to make consumers want their product like toyota it has cost the consumer more money and now the intrevals just are not soon enough but never fear quicklubes have adapted and we carry a engine flush and conditioner to help with the problem

All newer Daks have two stage base/clear coat paint. Pearls are base/mica/clear and a royal pain in the rear to match as well as more expensive to paint. I've seen some Chrysler cars with pearls from the factory but not too many. And like dakguy said, trucks arnt painted pearl colors, thank God.

Hey TimG, do you know why Dodge quit using emerald green? The color is great it's just that I don't understand why they quit using it. I've seen it on some Toyota's.
