Any suggestions on the best hitch and other
towing necessities for my '98 Dak C/C 3.9
2WD auto?

I may be getting a tent trailer, or something
heavier, and want to stay with user-installable
parts. I have no problem with over-engineering
(I'm an experienced wrencher/tech).

I'm using a hidden hitch (jcwhitney $99.95)
The tow bar that goes in the 2" receiver I bought at Walmart (Reese with 2" rise and a
2" ball. The wiring was a flat 4 connector (no trailer brakes)and it was the kind that plugs directly into your wiring harness for your back lights (no splices). Also I just added a hellwig
rear sway bar ($135 at jcwhitney).I pull a 1500lb
popup behind.

will the sway bar make a difference or a big difference in towing and handling?

Sway bar made a big difference in handling
corners that used to be leaning at 20mph
are now flat at 30mph also it will help sway while towing.

If you don't have one already, get a transmission cooler, cheap insurance compared to a rebuild, and for more cooling you can get a deeper aluminum transmission pan with fins to also help get rid of the extra heat, also holds about 2 more quarts of fluid.
