Subject: My rear end needs stiffining
IP: Logged

Message:
I use my Dakota as a vehicle for couriering mail from place a to place b. I load 850 to a 1000 pounds of boxed items in the bed. This causes the rear end to go down considerable. My question is what can I do to beef the rear end up. Would traction bars help? Heavier shocks? Is there a leaf spring stiffener? Any suggestions, thanks

Air shocks might be a cheap help. And when you don't need the extra lift, you can let the air out.

Add-a-leaf is an awesome way to fix that problem and it will make any truck look awesome. it makes it look like a race truck. but it only raises the a$$ end about 1-2 inches, they cost about $60.

put the air bags in its variable for load and driving conditions ,this way it wont ride like a tank when you have no load out on a sunday drive. and as Ginther said air shocks are an alternative.

Try a set of overload helper springs, easy bolt on and cost about 30 bucks or less. Increases load capacity by 1000 lbs,Kragens, Autozone, or Pepboys stock them.

Save your $$$ and invest in RAS(Roadmaster Active Suspension). All else would be overkill for your app in my opinion.

There is a company called Supersprings that makes a kit simular to a helper springs. Work super good for heavy loads and also when towing.

I haul heavy loads very rarely, usually as favors for friends. Picky about what goes in the bed :) I have noticed that there is too much sag when hauling though. I looked up helper springs at pep boys, this page:

http://www.7453217467431.com/products/productDetails.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=90027&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=51171&affID=39901&bmUID=1075878324703

Will these fit my Dakota? They say universal but that's not always the case. Anyone have them? Do they put a small lift on your rear end? Thats what I want if possible. It's a 98 Sport 4WD. I really like the Supersprings but don't want to invest $300 when I dont' haul that much. Thanks for the help guys.
