 Subject: HELP! TRANNY NOISE?

~1997 5.2L 5 spd Dakota Sport reg cab 65k miles- i got in my car today to go to pepboys and about 5 mins on the road i shifted into first from a red light and as i released the clutch it made an very loud noise past 25% release. (sounds like holding down the turn signal all the way down) i had to coast home and ride the clutch (oouch) i cant go more then a few mph. my question- is this the shifter linkage (it seems to shift fine) or the clutch (it feels strong) or something else? sorry for the long post oh yea i need to fix this b/c truck wont drive anywhere!
