Subject: Major MPG loss after mods ??

Message:
I need help ! I have a 2002 R/T with only 4900 miles on it. When I first bought the truck I put a Airaid Intake with a K&N cone, I checked the MPGs and they were 12 in town and 15 on the highway. In the past few months Ive done several mods in a short period of time and did not check the MPGs with each mod. I added MOPAR wires, 3923's, brass cap, 180 t-stat, 50mm TB, Gibson muffler, and the B&G Chrysler PCM flash. Now, the past two tanks Ive got 9 mpg !!! Thats a combination of city and hwy driving. I was under the impression that these mods would either help or atleast keep the milage about the same. I plan on 1.7RR's and 4.56 gears next month, could I get down in the 7 to 8 mpg range !!!???

My 96 CC Dak got around 13mpg. Then I put on a homemade cold air intake and it went up to about 15-16mpg. I was happy so I put on a Dynomax muffler. It dropped back down to 13mpg. :(
So, the muffler may have done it to you.

My MPG's went down (16.5 - 15) over the last few months as well. I blame the cold winter weather and the gasoline that goes with it.

Running 1 step colder plugs+180 T stat, you'll suffer a mileage drop... On top of that, who knows what the B&G is doing for you. Have it dyno'd and do a A/F test, and see where you are.

Have you reset your PCM??? Always check your mileage accurately, not with the overhead.. Custom flashes have a tendency to make the overhead off by quite a bit sometims.
