Subject: Trouble starting after rain

Used search engine, couldn't find anything. Have a '98 V-6 Dak, and the prob. is when there is a real good rain storm, or sometimes when I wash the truck, it takes forever for the engine to start. Anyone else have this problem? Any advice on how to fix? Thx
Randy

Will it crank, just not start? If so, somewhere, like a hood seal or something, a crucial part of the ignition system, due to the mopoisture, is grounding out, hence, no good fire to the plugs. Any ram air stuff that could be getting H2o in the intake at all?

Try cleaning and inspecting all ignition parts with a good moisture resistant cleaner and look for cracks, etc.

Good luck.

Maybe someone else from the peanut gallery like me, who has this year and engine, could share their experience with this.

Check for a crack in the distributor cap. Also, check the coil to make sure the rubber boot isn't damaged or gone. If that doesn't work, you could always move to Arizona.

Thx to both replies. The engine cranks, just "spit-fires", then, when it finally does start it runs real rough for about 3 minutes, sometimes stalls out when I depress accelerator. I will check the set up of my Airaid intake, never thought about that. My first thought was the distributor, but, didn't find any cracks or broken seals. I thought with all the electronic crap that is now on vehicles, that maybe there was a plug or some solid state device near the outer edge of the hood that water just dumps on. I will continue to probe and prod until I find out the problem, refuse to take to dealer, I've had nothing but bad experiences with them. Hopefully, neither one of you are Dodge mechs, don;t mean to insult if you are, just my findings have been bad customer service with Dodge dealerships, could be just my bad luck!!!
Cheers!!! and Thanks again.

I used to have a rough idle in an older vehicle, after rain or high humidity.
Try adding Heat or some kind of alcohol agent to your fuel to dry up water, if not that O2 sensor was my fix. this was for the rough idle and stalls. not starting could be caused by so many different things. You need to try and isolate the possible causes, Do you have spark? do you have fuel? do you have air?
sounds like you have all but one is not pure, make sure your gas cap fits correctly water in gas can do some bad things for performance.
