Subject: Black vs. Patriot Blue
IP: Logged

Message:
Does anyone have a black dakota '00 or '01 and wish they had chosen patriot blue??

I'm assuming that black is more popular than patriot blue.

I'm debating between these two colours. Black just looks so bad @ss on the sport package since everything is blacked out, but from experience I know they are a pain to keep clean. Is patriot blue any better?

Thanks,
Cheers

My guess is that Patriot Blue wouldn't be much, if any, easier to keep clean. It's still a darker color that will show dirt ... although nothing shows a speck of dust better than BLACK! hehehe
It is a b!tch to keep clean ... but when it is ... in my opinion -- there's nothing deeper than black paint!
What's your preference?

My preference...leaning towards black...since like I said...Dodges just seem to look SO BADASS in black!!! The one thing about patriot blue is that it's a pearl coat.

My order is for a black one...but I just want to make sure before it's too late to change the codes.

I'm not too far away from you...live in Windsor work in Troy....you think there's room enough for TWO black QC 4x4s?! ;-)

Cheers

Thanks for the compliment on the pics ... it's getting there! Now I just need a lift and big tires.... :o)~
I've only had the Rhino in for a couple of weeks, but love it so far. Hauled my hood down to the paint shop last week in the back and the box didn't so much as budge on the no-slip Rhino surface. It cost me about $325 installed. Worth every penny.

Well I am a Patriot Blue fan here. Nothing against the black, but man that blue is fantastic. I just picked up my new truck Tuesday afternoon and new I made the right decision in going with the blue! I almost had to wear a bib home it looked so good ;o)

It is going to be a bear to keep clean though. Pollen has already piled up and I am going to give it its 1st bath tomorrow! :o)

Yeah.. BLUE BLUE BLUE!!

Half the reason that I factory-ordered my DAK was that there are never any Patriots on any lot (I'm in SoCal - there's plenty of dealers here), and I just HAD to have that color. Well, that and limited-slip... it's amazing that there's never any DAKs with LSD on the lots.

This is the coolest color - especially in the sunlight or under the flourescent lights in a parking lot. The "pearl-coat" really pays off.

I'm already conditioned to wipe my truck down most every day, and I agree that DAKs are xlnt in black, but I bought a :

when i ordered my truck in 98 the colors were ugly. i wanted a dark blue, but it was not available. It was between white and black. i went with white because its easier to keep clean and scratches dont show as well. go with BLUE it looks sooo bad ass.

oh one advantage to black, everything is colormatched (doorhandles, front bumper, and roof rails are already black and blends in better)
but blue still looks better in my opinion

PB is better, like peanut butter ;-)

Blue is a tad easier to keep waxed and waxing is a little easier. For some reason the black coats have to have certain waxes otherwise swirl marks. Blue on the other hand takes Meguiars Gold Class and works well. It's probably the clear coat that makes the difference.

Just like my last truck which was black it is not easy to keep clean and scratched do show like on black. I got the gray two tone and there is not a better looking truck on the road in my opinion. Just wish the patriot blue was avail. in the Sport Package.

I'd sure like to know how you pulled off a Patriot blue (DARK BLUE) Sport.

I would've bought my truck like that, if I knew it were even possible. The DC brochure - AND several local dealers - told me that it wasn't possible. The "Honda DX" gray trim looks like I was too cheap to pay for a fully painted truck.

Mind you, I'm not at all unhappy with my SLT, except I had to have my lower bumpers (and an "eBay'd" grille) painted to match.

Funny, isn't it, how the factory HAS all of the paint colors, and ALL the body parts, yet they won't make all colors available for all models - at least that's what the dealers have stated - over and over.

Sheesh. It's just paint.

See I had the same problem dealers told me that I could get the amber fire in the sport and when i ordered it which was on jan 2 they told me that i couldnt. I got the patriot blue by mistake though. I wanted the intense blue but the dealer misunderstood me. So when i went and saw it i said it was the wrong color. But now that i have it i love it. Really not that many other people have it and thats what i like. Plus i really dont like chrome so my truck is all dark. None of that trim running down the sides. Thank god i dont have to clean that. Well thats my little story on how i got my color

Patty Blue all the way!!! It really is a pain to keep clean, though. But after the 2 hours it takes to wash the beast, it sure pays off in the sunshine w/ the looks!! Be very careful what you use for a cloth to wash it with, spiders will show up pretty easy if you are not careful. I guess that goes for black as well. Waxing is always a tedious task, but the benefits far outweigh the bad points.
You really can't go wrong either way. You have already made the right move - Ordering a Dak, enough said...

I have a '02 Black Sports Truck. And it is hard to keep clean while the scratches show easily. But IMO, you really have to look hard for those scratches--it really becomes visible when it is being reflected on a bright sunny day.

As long as you are really familiar with the safest washing/drying/waxing technique, along with the safest materials to do the job, then you should do fine...

Black really looks awesome. You can really see the nice shine and smoothness of a baby's butt.

When I got my new truck several months ago, I thought it was a lemon because the chicks weren't noticing. :\

But I do notice my black truck--and I don't regret choosing black!

Remember that the PB is a pearl coat and will show many "sparkles" of pearl in the paint. Beautiful color but hard to keep clean and scratch free.
